Tension on the ranch the past couple of days has been so thick the sharpest knife wouldn't even penetrate it. Everyone seemed to be walking on eggshells.

News about Beth and Rip being Sylvie's parents had made it to the bunkhouse, and all the wranglers were on their best behavior knowing the slightest move could send Rip on a riot and no one wanted to be on the wrong side of him.

Sylvie has been quiet, mainly confined to her room. She hasn't talked to Beth yet, she's tried but it seemed like there was a noose around her neck and everytime she attempted to interact with the strawberry blonde it tightened to the point where she couldn't breath.

It was an odd feeling because normally Sylvie has always been able to come to Beth, but now everything is different.

With the weekend being over it was Monday which meant school, Sylvie was a senior and planned on going to school to be a Veterinarian. She loved animals and would also love to help out on the ranch, well she did want to help out on the ranch.

Now she's unsure, what used to be her favorite place just felt suffocating now.

A knock sounded on her door before Chloe pushed it open, strolling in like she owned the place and plopped down on to bed next to her best friend.

"Hey." Chloe smiled softly

"Hi." Sylvie sighed as she hugged her pillow to her chest

"You know you're one of those girls that looks pretty no matter what, but you're pushing it today." Chloe winced making Sylvie look down at her appearance

She was wearing one of Kayce's old worn T-shirts with shorts, her hair was all over the place in a mixture of frizzy and matted, and her eyes were red and swollen.

"You sure know how to make a girl feel better." Sylvie mumbled sarcastically

"Sorry, this is just totally backwards. I'm normally the one moping around and you're the one trying to help me feel better." Chloe apologized, which was true

Sylvie was hardly ever in a bad mood or down in the dumps, while Chloe always seemed to have some kind of a crisis going on.

"I apologize for being upset about my sister being my mom and my brother figure being my dad." Sylvie narrowed her eyes and Chloe gaped at her

"What!?" Chloe screeched and Sylvie groaned holding her ears. "Why didn't you tell me? What the actual fuck?"

"Because I'm still trying to figure out if this is all one big fever dream or actual reality." Sylvie fired back
