The light fades and allows my vision to come back to me. Only to be blinded once more from a bright ass gate.

"Sorry for the brightness, my father likes his privacy." Fitz apologizes, not realizing he just made it on my 'rich people I'd remove from society' list.

"You're telling me this is your house?" Sophie says in disbelief.

He doesn't respond and walks over to the gate, only to lick a panel on the wall. Like a freak.

'Ew.' I gag at the display.

I only focus on the nastiness for so long before the gate opens revealing a literal castle. It's made out of sparkling crystal and is probably the prettiest castle to ever exist.

'Disney could never.'

Fitz ushers us inside before the gate closes behind us. He and Sophie make what I assume is small talk, but I could only focus on the grown ass man who has the friendliest smile on his face. He's tall, with the same teal eyes that sparkle in the light, and the same brown hair as Fitz. He's dressed so nicely that I feel overwhelming underdressed.

'My swag could never compare to the actual royalty that this man clearly is, with his fancy clothes and cape. Edna would never approve.'

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sophie. I see Fitz wasn't kidding about the brown eyes. Most unusual." His eyes clicked to me before continuing. "And you." He looks me over, taking in my appearance. "I did not know you were coming, my apologies. What is your name, if I may ask?"

"I'm sorry for coming unannounced," I bow my head lightly before looking back up at the man. "My name is Wisp, it's a pleasure to meet you, sir." I hear Fitz scoff at my greeting before grumbling something under his breath.

"Please excuse my son's rudeness, he seems to have forgotten his manners. Come now, we shouldn't keep our guests waiting." He smiles and eyes his son.

I snicker at Fitz's annoyed and shocked expression. The man introduces himself as Alden Vacker then turns and leads the way to his pala- home. His home. I admire the scenery as we make our way to the arch over the front door.

"So how exactly does this test decide my future?" Sophie asks, seemingly worried. And rightfully so.

"They're testing you to see if you qualify for foxfire." Fitz pauses as if that was supposed to mean something to us.

"Isn't that a glowing fungus?" She asked.

Alden and I absolutely lose our shit. 'That's so fucking funny.'

He seems insulted. "It's our most prestigious academy."

"You named your most prestigious academy after a fungus?"

I wheeze.

"It represents a bright glow in a darkened world."

"But... the light comes from a fungus."

He rolls his eyes. "Will you stop saying 'fungus'? Only those with the strongest talents qualify for Foxfire, and if you don't get in, you may as well kiss your future goodbye."

"Dude, it's not that deep. She's just questioning your naming abilities, not your elf-y abilities. Acting like you have a stick up your ass."

"You'll have to excuse my son once more. He's very proud to attend Foxfire- and it's definitely an accomplishment. But don't let him worry you. The earliest levels are more of a testing ground, to see who develops abilities that qualify them to continue with their studies."

'Seriously? These people are so fancy. With their houses and their fancy schools and fancy clothes.. they're actually calling me broke in several different languages. If my pen wasn't dead I'd think someone laced it and made me have a fucking trip. Speaking of pen, I need to charge it... What's my portable at?'
