I watched silently, knowing that this is her one chance to go to a school she belongs. She closes her eyes, trying to concentrate. Suddenly, she speaks.

"You're thinking you're the only one at this table with any common sense. And that you're tired of watching Kenric stare at Oraile."

I snicker as I watch Bronte's jaw fall open and Kenric's face turns red. Oraile looks down at her plate with pink cheeks.

"I take it that's right?" Alden asked, doing a terrible job of hiding his smile behind his hand.

Bronte- although a minor douchebag- is honest and nods, looking angry, chagrined, and incredulously all at once. "How can that be? An Ancients mind is almost impenetrable."

"Key word- almost." I butt in. I'm proud of my girlie.

Alden nods and continues for me, "Don't feel bad- she's also breeched Fitz's blocking."

The said boy flushes red and Bronte grinned smugly. "Sounds like Alden's golden boy isn't as infallible as everyone thinks."

"It's more likely that Sophie is exceptionally special." Alden corrects. "Fitz also saw her lift ten times her weight with telekinesis yesterday."

"Oh so I didn't imagine that.." Eyes turn to me, making me realize I spoke aloud.

"You saw?" Kenric asks in disbelief.

I nod meekly, "Yeah it happened when I ran after Sophie and Fitz 'cuz I thought he was a creep trying to kidnap her." I borderline whisper.

"You're kidding!" Kendrick gasped. "At her age? Now that I have to see."

I see Sophie shrink down in her chair. "But I don't know how I did it. It just sort of happened."

"Relax Soph, start with something small." I suggest.

Alden nods and points to the crystal goblet in front of her. She pauses for a moment, seeming lost in thought, then raises her arm.

Nothing happened.

It was a little awkward for a few seconds before the glass started floating off the table. Her staring at it in wonder.

I lean over and wave my hand above and below the glass.

"Huh. Sick."

"I did it." She muttered in wonder.

"That's it?" Bronte scoffed.

"Bro I'm gonna be real with you. You're starting to piss me off. This girl has just found out she's an elf yesterday, and hasn't had time to fully process it. Let her get used to this on her own terms okay? Thank yew." I huffed before placing my hand on Sophie's shoulder as a form of encouragement. The room was silent, wether in shock at what I said, or in interest of what Sophie is gonna do next, I do not know.

"Ahem. Anyway.. take a deep breath Sophie. Relax and remember that your mind has no physical limitations- unlike your physical body." Alden's calm confidence seemed to have done the trick, as now she had made five more goblets rise like crystal flying saucers.

Kenric applauded. "Excellent control."

"Thanks." Sophie replies. Almost seeming like she was embarrassed by the praise.

A snort came from the dickbag that is Bronte. "It's a couple of glasses. I thought she was supposed to lift ten times her own bodyweight."

I prepare to tell him off again before Sophie puts a hand on my shoulder and tells me it's fine. Her eyes glinted with determination and I couldn't bring myself to go against her wished to leave it alone.
