Lily Evans didn't like to meddle, so she would say. But it was hard to hide the ulterior motive she had when she forced Remus out of his dorm on Saturday night and lugged him out of campus towards Sirius' flat.

Sirius seemed good. Not that Mary wasn't. But Remus, Remus needed something more— concrete right now. He had done flings for a year, and that wasn't helping with Gid. Nothing seemed to be helping with Gid.

"Just keep him away from me, okay?"

"I don't see what the problem is, Lils," Remus shrugged, flicking down the button on his lighter until it ignited. "James seems nice. Handsome, smart, charming—"

"Obnoxious, self-absorbed—"

"You went to one party with him!" Remus exclaimed, laughing as he pulled a Marlboro box from his jacket pocket.

"And that was enough!" Lily groaned, "Ugh, and I've told you to stop smoking these things!" She snapped, plucking a cigarette from between Remus' fingers. "They're bloody bad for your health," she muttered, tossing it into the nearest bin.

"I'll just do it when you're not around from now on," Remus teased, pulling another from the box and holding it between his lips. Lily rolled her eyes, shoving her shoulder into his side as they continued their walk to Sirius' flat.

"Sirius said you do engineering?" James said, his hand leaning against the arm of the chair Lily was sat on.

"Mm. Environmental," Lily nodded, taking a sip of the drink she'd gotten herself.

"That's awesome!" James said enthusiastically, now sitting on the arm of the chair. Lily moved over as best she could, trying to stop her shoulder from having any contact with his side. "I nearly did that. Went for Environmental Bio, though. Maths never were my strong suit."

Lily raised an eyebrow, looking up at him for the first time since he'd started talking. "Bio? Really?"

"Yep! Absolutely love it," James nodded.

"Hm," Lily hummed, switching back to staring at her drink. She'd had him pegged for a business major— here on a sports scholarship and caring little for the education.

"Evans!" Lily's eyes flew to the doorway, where Marlene stood in flared denim pants and a cropped red top. "Your savior has arrived!"

"Is that.. Marlene Mckinnon?!" Lily feigned shock and excitement, grasping at her chest.
