"Who have you been hanging out with?" Dad looked at me, done with his conversation about hockey that Chip brought up.
I shrugged, "Ollie. Reign." I played with the asparagus on my plate and picked some up with my fork, "Natalie."
Dad nodded, "The Wilson girl?"
I nodded, "Yeah. I accidentally hit her with a locker door."
Angie snickered, "That's an unfortunate way to meet. She seems nice."
"She's pretty great." I shrugged and ate the greens on my fork.
"So are you gay for her or something?" Chip raised his eyebrows and pointed his fork at me.
I swallowed my asparagus and nearly choked on it.
"Chip!" Dad glared at him.
"Jonathan!" Mom did the same.Angie was the only one looking at me. Studying my face. She raised her eyebrows, asking me that silent question.
I shrugged and turned my attention back to my parents.
"I mean, come on! She's defended her every time her name is brought up and wears her hoodie all the time! She's gotta be gay." Chip shrugged and crossed his arms over his chest.
Mom slapped his cheek, "Whatever she is, it doesn't concern you. No child of mine will shame someone the way you just did."
Jonathan crossed his arms over his chest, "In trouble for asking a question."
Dad slammed his fist on the table, "In trouble for being an annoying, insufferable little shit! We don't care if your sister is gay and neither should you! Not eat your food or go to your room but no more of this talk."
It replays in my mind over and over and over again.
Chip can see it, which must mean everyone else can. They can all see me for who I really am; A lesbian.
So when Gabriella came back, I thought I was done for.
At her game, we only shared a few words.
I haven't spoken to the girl of my dreams in days. All because I was too worried about what people think.
But today, I am going to talk to her.
Or I was going to until I noticed her talking to Jake. Jake perverted Myers.
"There you are!" I looped my arm through hers and pulled her as close to me as possible, feeling my own jealousy in the air, "See, I was walking around everywhere to find you."
"Well here I am Scarlett." She smiled at me.
I stared in her eyes for a moment, missing this closeness. Then I looked at the weirdo boy in front of her, "Sorry! Was I interrupting?"
"Kinda." Natalie shrugged unconvincingly.
"I just wanted to talk to you about what time you were coming over? Since you're the one driving me to the game tonight?" I raised my eyebrows and looked at her.
I'm saving her from going with him and I'm also saving her for myself. I need her. And I've decided it.
"Oh right!" She looked apologetically at Jake, "I'm sorry. I have to go with Scarlett because I'm driving her and I think it would be unfair to her to be the third wheel."
"Completely understandable." He threw his hands up, "I get it. I am gonna get to class! Great game last night."
"Thank you." After he walked away, she turned to face me, "Thank you."
