Jamie blinked. "Y-You can't be for sure though, right?" He stuttered. Addie glanced at him. "Jamie, I've missed my period this month."
Jamie's ears burned. His hands clenched into tight fists. "I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch."
"Well, just wait cause we can't be for certain yet." Addison sighed and gently touched Jamie's arm. Her soft touch made Jamie calm down a bit. He took a deep breath. "Yeah you're right."
"Can I ask you something? You don't have to answer right away if you don't want to. But I'm just curious."
"Okay shoot." Jamie replied.
"What happened at the grocery store? Like when you got pissed off and then the glass broke on all the doors?"
Jamie gulped. "I knew this question was coming." He thought to himself.
"Okay. This is gonna sound weird and then it's gonna get weirder. Do you trust me?"
Addison glanced at him for a moment then nodded.
"Say something that'll make me angry."
Addison thought about it for a second.
"You're gonna realize you're never good enough. Like everything you've accomplished in your life isn't going to matter."
Jamie felt his ears start to burn again. His hands grew into tight fists as he saw his knuckles turning white. His breathing grew heavier and heavier.
Addison's backpack began to float, a few stray pencils coming out of the opening.
Addison jaw dropped. She then went on to say, "oh and one more thing."
"Trevor might have gotten me pregnant."
The pencils shot out like bullets straight towards Addison, nearly missing her face.
"That was so fucking cool! Dude, you have a superpower! That's awesome!"
No it's not!" Jamie screamed. "I could have killed you!"
"Jamie, calm down. You know I didn't mean any of that, right?"
Jamie sighed. "I know. I'm sorry. This power or whatever I have is still new to me. It's even affected people, not just throwing objects around."
Addison then realized, "oh shit! You made Trevor's nose bleed!"
"Okay that was completely unintentional. But I hated the way he treated you. And he was being a dick towards me."
Addison sighed. "I know. I'm sorry I didn't catch on until last second."
Jamie's phone suddenly rang. He dug through his pocket to reach it. "Shit, it's my dad. He just texted me. We're going to my mom's grave."
"Okay." Addison got up and gave Jamie a hug. "Just know you mean a lot to me Jamie. I'll let you know if anything happens."
Jamie thumbed through his phone as his father drove. Jamie's father opened up the center console and dug out a slightly worn urn. Jamie then noticed that they had passed the cemetery. "Dad, where are we going? You just passed the cemetery."
Jamie's father sighed. "Because we're not going to the cemetery. I'm taking us somewhere else."
Jamie's father pulled up to an old bridge, the pavement filled with old bricks and cobblestone.
"Dad what is this place?" Jamie asked.
Holding the urn, Jamie's father climbed out of the truck. He then began walking towards the bridge. Jamie followed suit.
Jamie's father stopped at the top of the bridge and took a deep breath.
"Jamie, your mother was the absolute love of my life. She cared so much about you too. She was our angel. She loved you so much. She made sure you were going to be okay."
"Dad, what are you talking about?"
"About a year before I met your mother, I enlisted in the Navy." Jamie's father said. "Your mother was one of the top mechanics in our unit. She was amazing. After a few years of us both being in the Navy, we both decided to get married, settled down and we had you. You were her light in the dark."
Jamie's father's eyes started tearing up. "A few months after we had you, she began getting more paranoid about everything. She would get so angry sometimes. Then one day, I came home and the house was a mess. We had ended up getting into a huge fight and then all of a sudden, the weirdest thing happened. The knives on the counter began to float. Next thing you know, I was pinned against the wall. Thank God it didn't kill me or else I wouldn't be here today. But I screamed at her, 'what the hell is wrong with you?!' It took her by surprise. She then began to pack her things and left."
Tears rolled down his father's face. "I'll never forget the day cops showed up to the house. They were able to recover her body from the water. I had requested to cremate her because I needed something of hers. They never recovered her car or her belongings."
Jamie felt tears streaming down his face. "Why did you tell me she got into a car accident?"
"Because you were so young at the time. God you were only ten when she died. No child should ever have to go through that."
Jamie stood there silently. He looked across the river and sighed. "Mom would have hated that we were fighting so much."
"I know. But she would have wanted us to do this." Jamie's father replied. Taking a deep breath, he unscrewed the lid of the urn. "You ready?"
Jamie pulled out his phone and thumbed through his music playlist. He hit the first song that was listed.
**I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO THIS SONG**
"How many special people change?
How many lives are living strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky."
Jamie's father's eyes welled up as he threw the ashes into the air. "This was your mom's favorite song. Thanks for that Jamie, I'm glad you remembered."
Jamie smiled. "I knew Mom would have appreciated that. I remember her telling me she would always dance to that song with you."
As they were walking back to the car, Jamie stopped. "Jamie you okay?" His father asked.
"Dad I need to show you something."
Jamie then closed his eyes and focused. The urn that Jamie's father held started levitating.
Jamie's father's jaw dropped.
"Oh my god...you're just like your mother..."
