Bound By It (Xianwang)

A Married Man

Wangji was like an alarm clock, he wakes up exactly at 4am. Usually at Gusu, this was the time when he started his day, he would complete most of his chores by 6am before the electricity cut. But here, it was too early. He looked at Wuxian sleeping peacefully beside him and laid there for an hour, his eyes wandering on Wuxian's beautiful face. He is handsome, there is something in him that made Wangji's eyes glued to his face, and like that he had fallen asleep before he knew it.

Wuxian was tossing in his bed till late the other night. He woke up with a headache. As usual his eyes first went on to the photo frame beside his bed and then as if he just realized, looked at the person sleeping beside him. Wuxian thought he might have been too tired cause he knew it's already past his usual time to wake up. At first he had planned to get off the bed and freshen up but then the time was just 6:30 so he started thinking about the same things again, got carried off by his thoughts and closed his eyes again, dozing off.

Wangji woke up suddenly thinking he was late and might be Wuxian is already awake but he was still sleeping and the time was already 8am. He got off the bed quietly not to wake him, freshened up and sat on the sofa in the living room.

Lan Wangji

I didn't know what else to do here. I thought of cooking breakfast before he wakes but I didn't know what he liked to eat. I was struggling a little with the water dispenser in the kitchen but managed to get water finally and that's all that I had. It was past my breakfast time, yesterday I wasn't feeling hungry after all that and now my stomach was growling loud. I went into kitchen again to find something to eat but as I opened the cabinet, it was all empty. I walked back to the living room and was about to sit on the sofa when I heard the door bell. I opened it to find a face I saw yesterday at Dr.Wei's home.
"Hi" she said and walked in.
If she angry with me? What if she is here to say something to me? "Hi" I replied.
"Where is A-xian? Still sleeping?"
I nodded and she kept a packet on the dining table "I have brought breakfast. I know he won't be having anything at home. It's usually A-cheng or me who brings him food, if not he eats out". She knew the place well, she went to kitchen and came back with three plates, setting them on the table she said "Go call A-xian."
"I think it's better you wake him. I..."
"Lan Wangji right?"
I nodded.
"Cheng told us everything. I know you might feel like being stuck in a strange land. Don't worry about parents, they'll be fine though it might take a few days." she gave me an assuring smile and went into the bedroom.
"Jie, you are here? I woke up when I heard your voice" I heard a sleepy voice from inside.
"Freshen up and come for breakfast, your husband might be hungry." and Dr.Wei hurried to the washroom.

"Ms.Jiang I.....I'm sorry." her eyes widened as I said.
"Why? I mean you too are going through what Xian is going through. We were angry when we first heard what happened but then A-cheng kept reminding us that you too are in the same situation Wangji." she flashed a kind smile.
"Mr.Jiang said that for me?" I was surprised, never thought he would do that, I thought he hates me.
"Mr.Jiang? Jiang Cheng? Yes he did. He doesn't look like it but he is soft hearted. By the way you can call me Yanli jie and Cheng ge. We are Xian's cousins."
"I have heard."
"A-xian told you?"
"Ahh...no Dr.Wei didn't. I just happen to hear."
"You call him Dr.Wei?" she asked in a teasing tone.
What else can I call him? She was looking at me waiting for my answer but he was here by then so she quickly served us food "A-xian, I have brought your favorite".
Dr.Wei was smiling wide looking at it, this was the first time I see him smile so beautifully.

Just as we were about to start eating, another rang was heard from the door. Dr.Wei rushed to open the door "A-qing..."
"Never expected me first thing in the morning?" she asked walking in.
"Sorry to let you know, but I'm the one who came in first" Yanli jie said.
"Jie you were here?" Dr.Wen set down the packet she brought on the table "I brought breakfast too."
Yanli jie was quick to set another plate for her.
Dr.Wen looked at me "Wangji, open the pack" and pushed the one she brought towards me.
I was surprised to see what's inside, it was common for us to have the dish in Gusu, my comfort food as I grew up having it "I didn't know you remember it..."
"You taught me how to cook it, I won't forget."
I could feel a warmth in my heart, I was happy beyond I could describe. I thought they would all hate me for what happened but they were understanding. I was wondering why father and aunty asked her to accompany me, but I get it now. Is this how it feels to have an elder sister?
"This is a special dish from Gusu, it's supposed to be spicy but I reduced it." she said as she served it to everyone.
