I woke up, laying on a dusty floor. I sat up as my eyes skimmed the surroundings. The room I was put into had no sense of warmth or security. My eyes darted around for an exit. The windows were sealed shut and the door was locked. My brain searched for an escape route, nothing came to mind.
I hugged my knees to my chest as I was feeling cold and miserable. It wasn't a good combination. Tears rolled down my cheeks and dripped on my knees.
The sound of heels were heard out outside of the door. It suddenly unlocked and swung opened, revealing a beautiful woman with a stunning blue dress.
She approached me and knelt down beside me, her badge read Elise. She placed her hand on my shoulder. I flinched at her touch since it was unfamiliar.
"How are you feeling, Darcella?" She asked.
I didn't bother to answer. But wasn't it obvious? I was upset, frustrated and terrified. Elise sighed and stood up, peering down at me "come and prepare yourself" she says.
Elise tugged on my arm which forced me to stand. She took me by the wrist and pulled me out into the hallway. My eyes searched for more exits. Before I could spot one she tugged me into a room filled with chatty girls applying perfume, make up and measuring their dress and foot sizes. I have only ever applied make up when I went out for dinner.
She led me into a change room "quickly, prepare yourself, Alex should be here any minute now." Fear laced over her blue eyes as she spoke Alex's name.
Yellow lights glimmered above a wide mirror, casting a glow on the magenta desk sitting below it. Racks of different coloured dresses were hung on either side of the walls and different pairs of heels were chucked in a basket.
I skimmed through the racks and disliked how unreasonably short the dresses were. I denied each one until I made an exception. It was still too short but the high quality material caught my attention. A long sleeved black tight dress was now in my grip.
I pulled it on and applied make up to my face. I had a clear face so I didn't need much on my skin, just my eyes that were red and puffy from crying. I placed black platform heels on my feet that made me look much taller than I was. Elise entered the room with another other woman as I applied a silver necklace.
"You look beautiful" Elise says while grabbing a brush and running it through my long brown hair. The other woman was named Wander. She wore a stunning green dress and had dark hair. She painted my nails white and added rings to my fingers.
My own deep brown eyes starred back at me through the reflection. Was this going to be my life now? Having men judge me on how I looked and deciding weather or not to take me home?
I blame this all on my father. If he hadn't of left I wouldn't of been here. He, my mother and I would have been as wealthy as the others. God knows what has become of my father now.
Two loud claps were heard from outside the change room. Elise widened her blue orbs. She pulled me by the wrist, dragging me outside of the change room. All the girls were in a single file. Elise squeezed me in between two girls.
Alex skimmed through his clipboard held in his right hand.
A girl to my left leaned towards me "are you new?" She whispered.
I nod.
"Then you must be Darcella" she says "I'm Roxanne."
Her brown hair, styled in curls sat on her shoulders. Her appearance looked a little disturbing on the amount of cleaverage been shown in her red dress.
I nod again in a greeting.
"You don't talk much do you?" she asked
"I hate this place" I say with a straight face, not bothering to look at Roxanne as I was speaking "they take me away from my mother and leave me here to choke on perfume."
Roxanne stifles a laugh. Her curls bouncing her shoulders. She instantly calms herself down "yeah that is true" says Roxanne "but I'm sure it will get better for you."
Alex snaps his head up from his clipboard, listing a couple of names. I eye the band-aid over his nose. My chest ached, that must of been from my mother.
"Anne-Marie Heights and Darcella Lilian Wington, room three" Alex read out. Two thugs came to escort us there.
I walked out into the hallway for longer than last time. The walls smelt as if they were freshly painted as we walked up a set of fifteen stairs. The place was massive. I honestly feel sorry for the cleaners. A girl my age walked beside me, dressed in a white chiffon dress. She looked over at me and a smile appeared on her glossy lips.
"Im Anne" she said "you a new doll?" She asked.
I have never been called a doll before and I already disliked it. The word is so dull and plain.
"Yeah" I say to her. My eyes observed the surroundings as I spoke.
"My deepest condolences" she says earning a small hit from one of the thugs.
"Aye! I know I might be a doll but you don't want to fight me mister!" Anne snaps.
Her straight hair falls back from her cheeks revealing a bruise that she couldn't quite cover. The thug holds his hands up in defense. Anne huffs and continues to walk beside me.
"Your cheek" I say referring to her bruise.
Anne shrugged "never make them angry" she says bluntly.
I could tell that Anne had a tough and passionate nature. Her eyes held a sparkle while the others held nothing at all.
We reached room three which provided whatever a doll would need. Machines for hair, make up for faces, hand creams and body lotions. I had never used these items in my life. Two beds were placed on either side of the room with large cupboard to separate them.
I took the left bed, closest to the window. I could hopefully escape this place by tonight.
"Lunch starts in three hours!" called Alex. His deep voice bouncing off the walls.
Anne sighed and lay on her bed "I don't want to see those filthy men again" she says to me "they treat dolls like toys."
"In what way?" I asked in fear that I was going to loose my virginity to a random man.
"In everyday possible."
Tears formed in my eyes, threatening to spill.
"It's horrible here" Anne says "escape when you have the chance."
