He was just about to utter 'Taehyun.' when the doorbell shrieked.
The two exchanged a quick glance.
"Dad will get it. Don't worry." Beomgyu mumbled and sighed loudly. "Taehyun. It's about Taehyun."
"Taehyun?" She furrowed her brows. She glimpsed at the half-opened bedroom door upon hearing some footsteps outside and continued. "What about Taehyun?"
"Yeah, what about me?" A face peeked inside the room from behind the door. His eyes traveled from Beomgyu to Kyujin, and squinted a little at their close postures. "Sorry. Should've knocked before interrupting." He casually uttered, still standing at the door.
"N-no, it's alright, C'mon in." Beomgyu said in a low voice, no hint of emotion in his tone. Just casual and simple.
Kyujin was about to say something retorting but decided it was better to keep quiet. What Beomgyu had said earlier meant there was something going on, something that definitely should not be bothered by her usual rude scoffs. She got to her feet, clearing her throat. "Uhm, I've gotta go clean my bird's cage. See you?" She a bit awkwardly let out, not really bothering to wait for the 'See you.' Beomgyu answered, and ran out.
Taehyun, standing a little inside the room now, looked at her going down the stairs. He heaved out the small breath he had been holding. Gosh, this is so awkward...
"You can close the door if you wanna..." Beomgyu trailed, avoiding eye contact. "Just saying, you know."
"O-oh.." Taehyun spun around and shut the door with a faint click, and then walked closer to the edge of the bed. "C-can I sit down..?"
"Yeah.." The elder scratched his nape. "Yeah, of course!" He forced out with a tight-lipped smile and gestured beside him.
Taehyun murmured a word of gratefulness, taking a seat while managing a good distance in between them. Picking his nails, he mustered and started, "I'm.. sorry.... you know, for being.. a dick earlier..."
"It's fine, actually." Beomgyu responded quickly enough, which made the younger doubt his words a little.
"So ehm... you.. I think.. wanted to say something..?"
"Yeah... uhm... I... I didn't- I mean, I-I'm sorry... about what I said earlier today..." The brunette tried, staring at his lap to avoid any sort of eye contact. "I... I should've understood that you wouldn't really do that to me..."
The younger felt something inside his chest move a little. "I'm glad that you realized it before later." He offered the boy a tiny smile. "I shouldn't have acted like a dick too. I'm...sorry... Gyu- I mean, Beomgyu." He corrected, stealing short and swift glances of the beautiful boy beside.
Beomgyu felt warmth rush up to his cheeks. He looked up, only to see Taehyun's intense doe eyes chained on his figure. He gulped a little, aware that he probably looked like a tomato. "I-it's alright, you know. Call me Gyu. I-I like it." He admitted, averting his gaze.
Taehyun's lips jutted slightly, and he inched closer without any further thought- too struck by the blissful and significant moment to even grasp onto those other thoughts. "Why do you always look away? Ain't I handsome enough to make an eye contact with, Gyu?" He whispered a little whiningly, gently touching the profusely-blushing brunette's face with his index and softly turning it to his side. His gaze traveled downward to the brunette's lips, and his own lips parted a little as his breathing became unsteady. He slowly leaned in further, waiting for the elder to shut the space between them.
Beomgyu swallowed again, breathing heavier. The touch, the nickname, the raspy whisper- everything was just beyond perfect and he got goosebumps over his skin. For a second he could forget all those negative thoughts in his head- his pathetic and miserable murderer self, his selfish mother, and all of his toxic past. For a second, his dead soul felt so alive, his homeless heart yearned to dive down into those deep, soothing oceans Taehyun's eyes represented. For a second, Beomgyu forgot everything and almost leaned in to attach their lips. But reality flashed before his mind like a sequence and reminded him that he had to push Taehyun away.
"Taehyun, no." He breathed, forcefully pulling himself a little backwards from the ravenette's gentle touch. "This is wrong. This can't happen."
The younger jerked his hand back, eyes widened. "I-I'm s-sorry... I- I'll leave... S-sorry.." His voice shook a little and he immediately got up, reaching for the door.
"Hyun, wait."
Taehyun froze in his spot, his heart missing two beats in a row. Hyun?
He turned around and found Beomgyu fumbling with his words.
"Not Hyun. I meant, Taehyun. Taehyun, yeah." He rambled, his cheeks slowly catching a baby pink tint. "So, uhm, maybe you could help me with my bio homework? You know, like I-I suck at bio and-" He got up, moving his hands in a circular motion as he attempted to explain, but Taehyun let out a little chuckle, interrupting.
"It's alright. Show me where you're stuck. I'll help you outta it." His inside still hurting a bit for being rejected that way, he ever-so-airily spoke.
"Sit." Beomgyu indicated the bed with his eyes and started to rummage through the pile of books on his table. The truth was, he wanted to push Taehyun away, but at the same time didn't want to dishearten or make him feel low. He wanted to stop caring, but the two words just slipped out of his tongue. So, he had to immediately make up something to cover that up. And, the brunette appreciated the way Taehyun was acting as if the way their almost-kissing incident hadn't at all taken place a few seconds ago.
The study session ticked by fast with the brunette catching Taehyun staring at him like a loser quite a few times, making his words to blend or fumble idiotically. By the time they were done, judging by the dry, soundless thunders that could be spotted through the ajar window, Taehyun guessed he better return home. Declining the offer to go gaming on Beomgyu's PS5, he scurried back home.
The dinner went by smoothly with Soobin and Yeonjun, accompanied by a Huening. Yeonjun tried to question Taehyun about the whole thing earlier with Beomgyu, but noticing the way the ravenette kept dodging his shoots, he didn't press on further. After helping Yeonjun to clean up the dinner table, right before kicking Huening out of his house, Taehyun shared him the details about how it had gone with Beomgyu.
"So, you're telling me, he gladly had sex with you but now he rejected your kiss?" Huening sipped on his can of Coca-Cola.
"That's what I been telling you for the past five minute." Taehyun huffed, exasperated.
"Right." The blonde took another refreshing sip, totally cool and relaxed. He burped right on the shorter's face and smiled like a lice. "Sorry." He carefreely spoke, not sounding and being sorry at all.
Taehyun glared at him coldly before snatching his can and downing the remaining liquor in one go. He burped louder than the younger, right near Huening's ear. "Sorry." He crumbled the can.
"What the fuck? Soobin hyung gave me that!"
"Fuck yourself. He's my brother."
"You fuck yourself."
"Baby, sorry to say but I'm not a bottom. Unlike you." Taehyun pointed a sassy index at the other.
"Well, not like I give a fuck. Fuck your own shit, bish."
"At least I'm not getting fucked by my shit. I'm gonna impregnate the shit, but the shit is gonna impregnate you-" The ravenette started cackling midway, earning a strong smack from Huening. "Motherfucker-"
"Shut the fuck up." The blonde snapped. "What do we do about Beomgyu? Your curiosity isn't still satisfied enough?"
"I dunno, bro. He's like.. loud and fun to be around.. like totally not my type but I feel like I wanna kiss him whenever we're close." Taehyun rambled.
"You sound like you're in denial."
"He's the one in denial, duh." Irritated, the elder ran his fingers through his raven locks, backbrushing them. "Man fucked with me, but denies kisses. What the fuck?"
"No idea. Your life, you deal with it." Huening shrugged his shoulders, sighing. "I'm glad it's going smooth with Steve."
"Oh yeah, gimme some coffee, brother." Taehyun started to walk the blonde back to his house.
"I wonder when you'll stop hating tea."
"Never. It's ew."
"Whatever. You wanna know or not? He sub-topped me!" The younger squealed.
Standing behind his window, Beomgyu observed the two quietly. Wish he had a friend like Huening... Wish he had someone to listen to like Taehyun did to Huening...
Okay, he knew he was exaggerating. His cousin's grounded time span was going to be over soon, and he even heard rumors that she was going to move to Seoul for university. He wondered if he introduced her to Taehyun would she tease him about i-
A loud thunder bold pierced through the sky, lighting the whole area for a split second.
A faint gasp left Beomgyu's mouth as he flinched hard. He had a traumatic past with thunderstorms and he was terrified of them. Usually, whenever there were thunderstorms, he would phone call his cousin or drown himself in music, but today he wished for something different. Something he knew was wrong, but he couldn't help wishing.
Just how he wished Taehyun to be there with him, whispering soothing words to him just like he did on that night when he took a half-scared Beomgyu's virginity. The brunette grabbed his phone and stared at the screen, contemplating if he should shoot a text.
