"You wouldn't dare!" Diablo roared at Calida.
Her eyes grew darker, empty, filled with a void only saving Izar's life could bring. And Izar could see that.
"You don't want to know what I could dare to do, Diablo. Be reasonable," Calida said quietly.
"Do as she says, Marcus. Let the girl go or she'll kill me," Pedro said.
Diablo chuckled. "The last time you called me Marcus in that stupid tone, I'd lost a shipment and you were pissed. You only call me by that name when you're disappointed or things aren't going according to your plans, father!"
"It's not like that..." Don Pedro tried to explain, raising his arms to calm Diablo. It looked like he was beginning to see that he had raised a beast instead of a son.
Calida kept the gun pointed at Don Pedro's head, bringing it closer so he would be aware of its presence. Izar watched in shock. How the tables had turned. Few minutes ago, Pedro had been the one calling the shots, now Calida had a gun to his head.
"Then what is it like? Huh? What the fuck is it like, father?" Diablo yelled, raising his hand to point at his father. "You never ceased to remind me that there were people doing my job way better than I was. And now? You're mad because your plans went south. But you're about to blame me for that too. Ain't it?"
Calida chuckled softly as Don Pedro sighed. He raised his hands higher as if to surrender. But Diablo didn't seem to care. In fact, he raised the remote control in his hand.
"I'm going to kill that girl and then kill your niece. I'll do it nice and easy because you taught me how to. I've always followed your doorstep. I wanted to make you proud of me! I pulled in all the big guns, brought investors, sold large shipments, I did everything you wanted...and when things went wrong, I got the blame for it. I don't give a shit about what happens!"
Lots of things could go wrong. Diablo was angry at his father and that didn't sound good. Calida sighed. If this escalated, it would turn into something else.
"We don't have time for this, let Izar go and I might spare your lives too..." Calida began to say.
"And then what?" Diablo cut her off. "What happens after that? You hand us over to the police? Is that it?"
"That, or I kill you myself. Either way works out for me in the end. Just let Izar go!" Calida said.
"Nah! That's not happening, you freak!" Diablo stated.
"Are you sure? Your father's life isn't valuable anymore?" Calida asked.
Don Pedro was shaking in front of her. He could hear his breathing grow heavy. She could smell his fear too. The one who was responsible for her family's destruction was afraid of being destroyed.
"Like I said, I don't give a fuck! I don't value him and his life," Diablo responded.
"Well then, I should end his life? I don't see how that would benefit you," Calida said.
"Son... please...!" Don Pedro begged.
Calida chuckled again. "I didn't think you could beg before. You're begging for your life? According to you that's cowardly. It's the same thing you told my Papa. A man should never beg for his life, he should take death as it comes. Remember?"
Don Pedro swallowed hard. A thick bead of sweat ran down his face. He attempted to wipe it twice, but his hands were restless.
"I've sent for more men, father. Don't worry, your son will save you!" Diablo yelled.
Calida rolled her eyes and so did Izar. "You don't get it," Calida started to say. "Nothing can stop me from ending you and your father if you don't let Izar go. What part of that don't you understand?"
