Malachi and Amira ride in the car listening to Daniel Ceaser.

Amira's Pov

Amira- Malachi you ok? you been hella quiet this whole drive.

Malachi- yes i'm fine i'm just thinking.

Amira- does it have something to do with what happened at dinner earlier?

Malachi- something like that. Is it crazy if I think that my family is falling apart right in front of my eyes and my father is the main cause?

Amira- what makes you think that?

Malachi- idk he's just been acting really distant lately, not showing up to family dinners, being sneaky etc. I don't want to assume the worst because I respect my dad. He made me into who I am. I just feel like i'm going to have to choose sides if it comes down to my parents breaking up.

Amira- i don't think they would make you choose.

Malachi- My mom most definitely would. She hates when she feels like people aren't on her side. Look at what happened with Marcus and Angel. When he chose to stick beside Angel, she lost it.

Amira- How could she not expect him to stick beside his wife? Isn't that what a husband's supposed to do?

Malachi- exactly.

Amira- and it's none of her business anyways so why would she care?

Malachi- she's just really overprotective over us and she just feels like everything needs to be perfect all the time. Angel doesn't fit into her idea of a perfect family so she has done everything in her power to get rid of her since the beginning.

Amira- why though? Angel is such a sweetheart.

Malachi- Marcus got addicted to opioids in his senior year of high school. Him and Donovan's biological mom would do them together even harder after she had Donovan. She overdosed a couple of days after Donovan's first birthday in her parent's garage and was there for a whole week without any noticing. Marcus was the one who found her decomposing. Tiana was Marcus's first love, first everything. He loved her so much and losing her broke him down to his core. He was still using drugs until he almost overdosed himself. My older cousin found him and rushed him to the hospital. He survived and decided to get clean for himself and Donovan. Angel came along not too long after. She worked at the rehab as a musical therapist and helped him through his journey. They fell in love and well you can pretty much guess everything else. As much as my mom doesn't want to admit it, Angel saved Marcus when he couldn't save himself.

Amira- omg babe, that's a lot. But wait i'm not understanding why does your mom hate Angel if none of it is her fault?

Malachi- I don't think it's hatred but she definitely isn't very fond of her at all.

Amira- but why though?

Malachi- well for one, my mom doesn't like people who are too over the top and that's Angel all the time. She's unapologetically proud of who she is and that bothers my mom so much. Also, she's transgender. Now, I've never personally had a problem with the LBGTQ+ even though i was taught to pray for people like that to "save them from going to hell" but I just keep thinking, why would God want people to be unhappy and not being able to experience life the way they want to?

Amira- so basically anything your mom doesn't understand or likes, she just gets rid of?

Malachi- basically if you don't fit in where you're supposed to in this family, there's no place for you here. Can we change the subject though?

Amira- i understand, of course.

Malachi- how do you feel about us even after everything I just told you?
