Ivy peered through the tower's enormous window while perched on a wooden stool. Her big, brown, youthful eyes took in the breathtaking view in front of her. The sun's intense heat gently caressed the lovely green grass of the lawn outside, causing it to shimmer with joy.

The sky, a dazzling blue, seemed to grin down at her as the large trees outside stood tall with their leaves swaying softly to the tune of the gentle wind. She was full and bored after she had finished baking her cookies, or as nice of a cookie as any five-year-old could create. She had already tried painting the view, and while it didn't turn out too badly, in her eyes anyway, she would definitely continue to hone her skills in the future.

Yes, she was terribly disappointed not to be able to go exploring. She was not your typical child, though, and she frequently wished she could have the amazing adventures that other children her age could, like the ones she read about in books and that John would constantly tell her about. She was a hunted child, indeed, but a human nonetheless.

The evil witches would track her down and execute her if she ventured too far from the tower, with the goal of awakening the dark queen. She trusted John even if she didn't know why they wanted her so much.

Yes, unfortunately, she was a sacrifice. The only person she had ever seen in real life, John, was the loveliest, most compassionate person she had ever met. She had no idea how precisely that would work, but she would always listen to him, even if she had doubts about some of the things that he had said.

While John would protect her, he was not a strong enough witch to stop them all, and she was definitely not strong enough to stop them. She had always questioned why he would never seek assistance from the other witches, but
John had made it clear that they would give her up in order to protect themselves. She would only be able to trust John.

Ivy gazed at the mark on her left forearm. Though small in size, the mark was present. The Dark Queen's Signature. How unjust that she was born with a host of evil beings after her nonexistent tail.

Her vivid brown eyes noticed something that seemed to be a puppy as they peered out the window again. Her eyes gleamed. Squirrels and other animals were frequent visitors, but Ivy had never seen a puppy before. She bolted down the tower's stairs and through the entrance, eventually coming face to face with the small wolf pup.

Ivy giggled as the small ginger-colored wolf wagged its tail in response. It wasn't fear that filled her; rather, it was excitement. She felt a peculiar, almost eager energy buzzing in her chest. She also didn't seem to frighten the small wolf. At that, the young wolf started to flee. Ivy frowned. "Wait up, little wolfie!" Hurrying after the small wolf, Ivy let out a shout to run away. Ivy frowned.

Although she knew she ought not to leave the tower, she wasn't going to travel very far since John would be returning home shortly; besides, it was only harmless play.
But she did.

Ivy was playing and chasing the little wolf one minute, and then she was somewhere in the strange woods the next. She wasn't sure how it happened. She was far away from the tower. A long way from John. "Oh my, we went too far, little wolfie. I go back because I think John is wo-red." When Ivy said, realizing that she had in fact strayed away, holding the somewhat oversized young wolf in her little arms. She let the small wolf down as it started to wiggle in her arms. "Little wolf, don't wo-ree. You can always come see me. Ivy will wait."

Ivy grinned at the small wolf, which appeared to return the favor by licking her tiny feet. The small wolf fled to join what appeared to be other small wolves and a large one in the distance as she chuckled and ran her hand through its velvety red fur.

Ivy let out a sigh.

She had no idea what that felt like, even though John was there and he was a nice guy. He was rarely present but made up for it by spending a lot of time having fun with Ivy when he was. She thought of him as kind of a father figure, even though he refused to accept the title.
