Before she knew it, Ivy's back was against the hard floor, and a confused Emmett was on top of her, keeping her still.
"Who are you?" Emmett calmly let out. His voice was deep but slightly scratchy. It sent goosebumps down Ivy's spine as her head began to pound again. Dizziness enveloped her.
In her fear and distress, Ivy tried to open her mouth and speak, but nothing came out; instead, the sound of heavy boots and shouting echoed in the air before darkness swallowed her for what felt like the hundredth time.

We are coming...
Ivy...
You cannot hide...
Ivy...
We are coming!
"IVY!"
With a gasp, Ivy's eyes shot open to a familiar face. "Great you're awake. You were starting to scare me there. Were you having a nightmare?" A relieved-looking Claire let out immediately, rushing to Ivy's side. The pounding in her head was no longer excruciating, though she did feel a bit weak.
"W..what h...happened?" Ivy asked feebly as Claire helped her up into a sitting position on the bed. Ivy's gaze wandered around. She was in her cabin. Betta Clark. Memories, or rather what she assumed to be images from a dream, rushed through her consciousness. Ivy wasn't sure what to trust. Her body too felt a tad bit sore.
"Betta Clark-" Ivy began to speak when Claire interrupted her. "When we found you, he messed up your face pretty badly but it soon began to heal while you were unconscious at the pack doctor. We don't know what got into him. I mean, he's usually an ass, but this was new. He tends to get a bit too possessive over the pack. But don't worry, he's in the pack cells, and he will pay for his crimes. You need to eat; you're weak, here." Claire handed Ivy a tray stacked with seafood, her pity-filled eyes never leaving Ivy's perplexed ones.
Ivy wearily accepted the tray and started devouring it. The variety of flavors was a delightful pleasure for her body, but her mind was still far away. It seemed she was forgetting something, then it hit her.
Emmett
Or was it a dream?
She knew why, but her heart began to race as the arms of panic steadily extended towards her heart. She opened her mouth to speak, and as if reading her mind, Claire nodded happily. "It wasn't a dream. Eat first, then we'll talk."
It wasn't a dream.
The words brought a new wave of confusion and panic through her. Of course, something else that would result in complications had to happen. Oh no, her visit to Alpha Ember could not have been a normal one; her life was far too messed up for that. But it also echoed in her head that she brought someone back from the dead.
How?
Why?
Why was Emmett even in that room if everyone thought him to be dead?
She had so many questions, but a weak body and mind would not aid her in getting through whatever would happen next. She knew that much, so she ate.
Ivy finished three trays and was quite satisfied, but the scrumptious aftertaste vanished as memories of all that transpired yesterday once again plagued her mind.
"So you wanna start by telling me what exactly happened yesterday, like how on earth did you manage to awaken Emmett?" Claire let out intrigued.
A...Awaken? So he's actually here again, like breathing and everything?" Ivy said, bewildered. No matter how hard she tried to convince herself that this was all a dream, she knew deep down that it was real, but no amount of thought could lead her to any conclusion on how any of this could be possible.
"Yes, he's alive, thanks to you, Ivy. You brought him back. You brought back our Alpha." Claire smiled brightly, taking Ivy's hands in hers.
"I think you're mistaken, Claire. I did not awaken. All I know is that Betta Clarke was beating the shit out of me, but I somehow managed to get him off, and then I went into a room, and there he was. I was so confused because everyone made it seem like he was dead and buried so you can imagine my surprise when I saw him there. I assumed it was his corpse or something, then it was like this strong energy pulled me to him, and the next thing I knew he was awake. I swear, Claire, I did not touch him or do anything; it just happened."
"But you must've Ivy. After the witch spelled him, we tried everything to get him back, but nothing worked. We knew that he wasn't quite dead but it was still strange. We were forced to watch the colour drain from his body as he turned cold. Then two years passed and everyone gave up. Some began to think that he was dead, but the alphas just couldn't let him go, so they kept him in their cabin. You come along and suddenly he's back; surely that cannot be a coincidence.
"Trust me, Claire. I did nothing. He was the one who pulled me to him. The next thing I knew I was hovering over him with a murderous headache, and then his eyes opened. I am just as confused as you are. I...I don't know why any of this is happening." Despite her attempt to keep her tears at bay, they still found a way to escape. The stress of the situation was evident. The situation was confusing to be in because, on one hand, she supposed she was glad that everyone's beloved Emmett had returned to them, but she was sure that no credit was to be given to her for this. She did nothing.
"It's okay, Ivy." Claire pulled her into a tight hug. "It doesn't matter who pulled who; what matters is that Emmett is alive somehow. Everything is going to be alright. It's okay."
It helped her relax a little, but Ivy knew things would only grow worse. She had so many questions, and she was afraid that the answers would only lead to her death. They remained like this for a few minutes when a loud knock sounded from the door.
"I'll get it," Claire said before leaving Ivy alone with her thoughts. It was a short but much-needed break. "Oh, thank goodness you're okay!" In the blink of an eye, long, bouncy curls were all that Ivy could see as she was pulled into another right embrace. "I swear I'm going to kill that bastard myself. How could he do such a thing? I mean, he's always been a bit of an ass, but this is just too much." Isabel fumed.
"I'm okay now, Issi. That's all that matters, right? I only hope that no one else in this pack is planning to murder me." Ivy chuckled awkwardly. "They would be a fool to try." Claire frowned.
"Yeah, besides, you're like a superhero now. Everyone wants to know how exactly you awakened Emmett when some of the most powerful witches couldn't. I mean, of course, many are suspicious, but we're all happy, Ivy. You did something no one thought was possible. So how did you do it?"
Ivy sighed. "I didn't do anything, Issi. I was in the room, then the next second I was floating, and then he just opened his eyes. He pulled me to him."
Isabel looked at Ivy as if she had grown to heads. "Ivy, I don't think that's-"
"The alphas wish to see you, Ivy." Claire interrupted.
How utterly thrilling. Another visit to the alphas, but not under the conditions Ivy desired. She still had no idea what the witches were up to or how long the alphas intended to help her by allowing her to remain in their pack despite the risks. But one thing was certain: resurrecting the alphas' "dead" son would attract unwanted attention from dangerous people.
It made her wonder what exactly she had become in those waters.
A "mermaid" or cursed.
