A week had passed since the incident at the coast. Emmett was barely seen. People were talking, fearing that the witches would attack. Though there was disagreement among the pack regarding Ivy's presence, the
Alphas demanded that she stay.

The news that witches were looking for a lost sacrifice circulated quickly, and Ivy would be lying to herself if she didn't admit she was terrified. Every day, she awoke from the same nightmare with the cloaked figure. She awoke, horrified that the witches would find her, but the alphas informed her that they had enhanced their border protection spell to ensure that no witches could easily enter into pack lands.

It helped to alleviate some of her worries, but the feeling that something horrible was about to happen remained. Not to mention the increasing number of inexplicable disappearances that had been occurring for the past few months. It was only growing worse as more wolves went missing from various packs around the world, and sadly, two warriors in training went beyond pack territory to see family but had yet to return or send word that they were safe. Other witches, as well as vampires, were found dead under similar circumstances. It was a disaster, but everyone knew it was the work of witches. More and more people were starting to believe that the witches were attempting to resurrect the dark queen, which meant that absolutely no supernatural was safe.

The cool waters caressed Ivy's skin. It was astonishing how comfortable she felt in the water. Being a mermaid began to lose its negative connotation as she swam among little and large fish, heightened by the hypnotizing blue of the water. It wasn't so horrible being surrounded by animals with similar characteristics to her. She could converse with the animals without being judged. The ocean was her safe haven, where she could clear her mind.

Ivy had been swimming for a while, and it was time to go back. In a chaotic world, her morning swims were the only thing that kept her grounded. When she got to the coast, she was surprised to see Isabel smiling at her. Normally, she would make sure no one was nearby when shifting, but she trusted Isabel and considered her a friend. Ivy made her way onto the sand, where an amazed Isabel observed her intently.

"Here." Isabel handed Ivy her tank and shorts. "Must be amazing to be able to breathe underwater. I still can't believe you're a mermaid." She continued. Ivy flashed her a small smile. "Yeah me either but swimming in the ocean just makes sense you know."

"You're pretty rare stuff humans and supernatural would kill to get their hands on you humans for the experiments and supernatural for your blood."

"My blood?" Ivy inquired. She had read stories about mermaids but none specified about a mermaid's blood.

"Yeah, a mermaid's blood has healing properties, especially to witches. It may be one of the reasons they've gone extinct. They were hunted a lot like a lot." Isabel replied.

Ivy was dumbfounded. Every day, she learned something new that endangered her life even more. She knew not whether to be happy with the news that her blood could heal or be greatly anxious. If the witches hadn't already hunted her, they were about to start now. She could only pray that the witches wouldn't find out she was a mermaid.

"Wow, I mean, I've read up about them before, but I guess I always thought them to be a myth of some sort; besides, they weren't my favorite supernatural species."

"What was?"

Ivy chuckled sadly. "Witches."

Silence.

After all, Ivy was raised by a nice witch, so she became infatuated with them and consumed every spell book and witch-related material she could discover. The thought of John brought a heavy feeling to her stomach. If he had been alive, she would have played him a tune on her harp. Her vision clouded.
