No one's pov
Across the great hall James and Sirius have noticed something. Something wrong. Something wrong with regulus.
After breakfast James goes to regulus concerned
"Hey Reggie you okay?" James said slipping his arm around regulus in the bare hallway
"What?... oh yeah I'm fine" Reggie lied, he hasn't slept in the past two days he isn't sure why but each time he tries he has the same horrible nightmare and nothing is helping him.
"You sure mera sitaara" James questioned again not believing the short black haired man in front of him
" Je vais bien, c'est comme ça" Regulus responded snappy not even realizing he had switched to French, this has happened be for when he get really tired he ends up speaking in French, he can't really turn it off it's a subconscious thing,
"Okay, then uhm I'll see you later love" James said confused but he wasn't going to ask reg to repeat himself because he sounded mad and he didn't want to make it worse
"Au revoir" regulus replied already walking away, he didn't want James to think he was mad at him, he was just too tired
Back in the Gryffindor dorm with Remus , Sirius, and Peter
"Hey uhm im confused" James said creeping his way into his own dorm
"Why is Reggie okay" Sirius questioned worried for his brother
"Yeah so I tried to aske him and he said yes then I said you sure and he just kinda like.... I don't know... snapped?.. i don't know he had an attitude and just started speaking in French, even when I said goodbye he replied in French" James said walking over to his bed where Remus and Sirius were sitting beside with Peter reading in his own bed.
"Huh I mean he looked really tired maybe that's why" Sirius offered a reason
"But then why would he just quit use it English?" James wondered
"James English isn't our first language, remember we're French, and in our house it's not common that English was spoken so speaking English is a thing we have to put thought into, especially Reggie he lived there the longest and he still uses French a lot" Sirius reminded James what's it's like for them to speak English, Peter is the only one in the friend group whose actual first language is English, James was raised learning btw o so Hindi and English are both his first(and second) language, Remus' first language is welsh but he learned English when he was very younge becuase many people in Wales speaks English. But Sirius and regulus grew up rarely speaking English that's why they(especially Reggie) have French accents.
"Sooo your point is." James asked still confused
"James you pay no attention do you?" Scoffed Remus partially joking earning an eye roll from James
"When ever we get really tired we accidentally start speaking French because speaking a second language takes consecration, same if we're rambling we'll start speaking French because we aren't thinking about trying to speak English." Sirius explained
"Yeah I do it as well, but you know with welsh" Remus agreed
"Yeah, James I'm pretty sure I've seen you do that before, you had just woken up and were speaking Hindi, but you caught it and switched to English" Peter added getting a almost shocked look from everyone else becuase they hadn't even realized he was listening
"What? Just becuase I'm reading doesn't mean I can't hear you all" Peter replied
"Okay then, what do I do?" James asked hoping his friends had the answer
