Ona's POV
"Wake up loser." My brother flipped my bedroom light on causing my eyes to burn. I've been awake for awhile now awaiting the first day of Sophomore year.
I didn't just survive freshman year...I thrived during it. It was the best start to highschool anyone could ever imagine. My bestfriend Aitana and I made Varsity together. We won thr championship. We made straight A's. Life was perfect.
And now I'm terrified I may lose that.
We had tryouts last week before school started and it was eye opening.
The incoming freshman class was talented. So incredibly talented. They're stacked with potential. We had a large group of senior leave at the end of the past two years.
My freshman class had 8 people make varsity, but I'm not sure if this record will be broken.
"You're going to make your team."
"I hope..."
"Or you won't oh well. Either way get up you lazy bum." My brother has a smile on his face. We go to different schools since I attend an elite all girls school know for creating the best athletes.
At times I hated my school, but most the time I love it. My parents spent a bit of money to keep me there so I remain grateful, but if I don't make varsity again I will feel like it was all for nothing.
"Aitana is taking you right?"
"Yes mom. I'll text you when I get to school I love you!" I hugged my mom and then walked into my bathroom to get ready.
A messy bun it is for today. I'm too nervous to worry about looks today.
Before I knew it Aitana was laying on her horn in my drive way. She's going to make the neighbor mad again. Aitana's family was comfortable unlike mine.
And by that I mean she's wealthy.
She belongs at that school.
If I don't keep my grades up and my spot on the team I'm out. I have to remain perfect.
"Goooood morning." Aitana smiled wide as I opened her passenger seat door.
"Are you excited to see the roster? I'm so excited! Oh I wonder who we'll have defender wise with the seniors leaving and Codi moving away."
"Yeah I'll be waiting to see..."
"Are you nervous?"
"I am."
"You'll be fine Ona! You were the best outside back last year! You were always in the starting lineup. You'll be crazy to think you don't have a spot on the team."
"The incoming class was really good Aita."
"Eh. I guess. There was only that one girl who will definitely make it in the backline. Honestly the incoming freshman forwards were the most competitive and then of course...Oberdorf."
"You play different positions you'll be fine." I chuckled at Aitana's comment. The German born defensive midfielder has been talked about last year.
Our sporting director and head coach were incredibly strategic at scouting.
"Its always funny to see the long lines in front of each roster posted." The first day of school was busy. The rosters for every sport varsity and jv are posted in the gym.
"Its stressful as well. Its a wonder why some of the people looking are even there. I mean some of us know that we either have a spot or atleast a good chance, but some are just desperately hopeful." I remember Aitana pushing me over to the varsity list after I was busy looking at the JV roster.
