A couple of days later, I ask Louis if he wants to go see a movie. He immediately agrees. We meet up at the cinema to watch Deadpool VS. Wolverine. It's an entertaining film. Afterwards we go to a cafe for a cup of coffee.
"So you quit your job at the Suicide hotline?"
"Yeah, it became too much." I shrug.
"Because of me?" He question.
"I went to the bridge, you know?" I reveal.
"I didn't know that. I'm sorry." He looks concerned and ashamed at the same time.
"Don't apologize. My decision to leave... a job like that really takes a toll on you and after four years of listening to people's suicidal thoughts day in and day out, let's just say that for the sake of your own mental health no one should have that kind of job too long."
"I think you're right. So why did you decide to work there in the first place?"
"I wanted to help people."
"Oh, so you have a hero complex?" He teases.
"Gosh, that sounds horrible!" I giggle.
"I think it's admirable." He smiles.
We drink our coffee and order another one while we discuss lighter subjects like football and our favourite movies. I don't want the night to end, but I have work tomorrow. After we finished our second cup of coffee, we head to the subway. It's raining outside, but Louis just laughs and takes my hand while we run down the street.
We have to take different trains, so he says good night and gets on his train. I wave at him and catch my own train home. I get a text from him when I enter my apartment. He's making sure I got home safely. That's so sweet. It gives me butterflies.
We text back and forth until I fall asleep, and when I wake up in the morning, I have another text from him saying good morning.
He's a frequent texter. Throughout the day, I receive text with various subjects. He's asking how my day is going and asks about my weekend plans. I suggest that I can cook dinner for us at my place. I nervously await his reply, but I receive it immediately. It's a date!
