SEASON ONE: We only see each other at weddings and funerals

New York, 2019.

"What do you mean my own selfish desires?" Five asked, shocked that she had the audacity to say that. "I did it for you. I did everything for you!" He blinked in front of her, their faces too close for comfort.

"Oh, yeah? You did it for me?" Mika stood tall, raising her head to look at him, her eyes cold and empty. "If you did it for me, then why did it take you so long to come back?"

"You do not understand the absolute shit that I had to go through just so I could find my way back to you," he replied, trying so hard to calm his rising anger. Mika crossed her arms, turning away from Five.

Five clenched his fists, trying to maintain his composure. "You think I wanted to leave? You think it was easy for me to be stuck in an apocalyptic wasteland, watching everyone I care about die over and over again?"

Mika's eyes flared with anger as she turned to face him again. "And you think it was easy for me? Do you know what it's like to wake up from a coma, only to find out that the world moved on without you? That the person you cared for more than anything was gone?"

"Oh, funny. The world also moved on without me! Longer than it did for you," Five pushed, not wanting to back down from this fight. Mika stared at him, dead in the eyes. "You had it better than I did. I was stuck in complete darkness."

"You don't understand the shit that I'm saying! If only you even had an ounce of a brain, if only you were smarter," Five stepped closer, poking his finger at her forehead, suppressing his boiling anger. "If only you were the one who went through what I've experienced, then you wouldn't even say half of the shit you're saying to me right now! So, what I'm saying is, I did it all for you!"

"No! I do understand what you're trying to say... we're going in complete circles now." She interrupted, tears welling up in her eyes. "You don't get to make excuses. You don't get to tell me it was all for me when you abandoned me. Seventeen years, Five. Seventeen years of wondering if you were dead or alive, of holding onto the hope that maybe, just maybe, you'd come back."

"I was fighting to get back to you and our family every single day," Five whispered, his voice about to break. "I was alone, scared, and all I had was the thought of all of you being safe from the apocalypse to keep me going."

Mika shook her head, a single tear slipping down her cheek as she looked at him for the last time. "And now you're back, but it's too late. I'm not the same person I was. We're not the same people we were." She turned around to walk out of his room, stopping just in front of the closed door.

Her voice was barely above a whisper, filled with a mixture of sorrow and resignation. "Love isn't enough to fix this, Five. You can't just come back and expect everything to be okay."

Five came down to the lobby, mumbling as he went down the stairs, complaining about the only clothes he had were his old uniform. "Ah, shit." Bumping into the railings as his mind was still on the argument from earlier.

As his mind was wandering off, he stopped as his own portait that was above the fireplace came into his view. Vanya who was in the area, saw him staring up at the portrait and slowly approached him. Five, who was still looking at the portrait, turned his body to Vanya.

"Nice to know Dad didn't forget me." He said, wanting to start a conversation with someone else, hoping it wouldn't end up in an argument. "Read your book, by the way. Found it in the library that was still standing." He was now facing his sister, letting her know that he appreciated her work.

"I thought it was pretty good, all things considered." He continued, slowly walking around the common room to see what has possibly changed while he was gone. "Yeah, definitely ballsy, giving up the family secrets. Sure that went well."

Vanya looked at him, any sort of emotion was not present on her face. "They hate me."

"Oh, there are worse things that can happen. Things like arguing with someone not even a few hours after coming back after seventeen years." He sighed as he clasped his hands behind his back, hoping that she wouldn't ask about what he said.

"You mean like what happened to Ben? Or like what happened to Mika?" She asked her brother, who turned to look back at his portrait. "Was it bad?"

Vanya, who didn't know what else to say, simply nodded her head. With that gesture, Five turned around and walked away, blinking to some part of the mansion where he couldnt be found by anyone.
