Chapter One: Worlds Apart

Emma's POV

Emma Wright wiped the sweat from her brow as she hauled the last load of laundry into the washing machine. The small apartment she shared with her parents felt stifling, especially during the sweltering summer months. Despite the heat, Emma moved with a practiced efficiency, knowing she had a long list of chores to complete before heading to her evening shift at the local diner.

Her mother, Margaret, was in the kitchen, preparing a modest lunch. Her father, Robert, sat by the window in his wheelchair, gazing out at the busy street below. His once strong frame had withered after the accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down, but his spirit remained unbroken.

"Emma, dear, take a break," Margaret called softly. "You've been working all morning."

Emma smiled at her mother, her heart aching at the sight of her worn, tired face. "Just a few more things to do, Mom. I can rest later."

Emma's life was a delicate balance of responsibility and sacrifice. She juggled multiple jobs to make ends meet, often putting her own dreams on hold to ensure her family's well-being. But she never complained. The love she had for her parents fueled her determination to keep going, no matter how tough things got.

"Mom," Emma began hesitantly as she joined her mother in the kitchen, "I've been thinking... We really need to find a better place to live. This apartment is too small, and Dad needs more space to move around."

Margaret sighed, her eyes reflecting both worry and hope. "I know, sweetheart, but finding an affordable place isn't easy. We've been through this before."

"I know," Emma replied, determination creeping into her voice. "But I can't just sit here and do nothing. I thought I'd start looking again. Maybe we'll get lucky this time."

Margaret reached out and squeezed Emma's hand. "You're doing so much already. Just promise me you won't overwork yourself."

Emma nodded, though she knew that promise would be hard to keep. She finished her chores quickly, kissed her parents goodbye, and stepped out into the bustling streets. The city seemed to buzz with energy, but Emma felt like she was running in place, trying to keep up.

Tristan's POV

In a sprawling mansion that overlooked the city, Triatan Baker strode through the marble-floored hallways with an air of confidence that bordered on arrogance. His tailored suit and impeccable grooming were a testament to his success as a business mogul.

Tristan had built an empire from the ground up, and he took pride in his achievements. But his relentless drive had come at a cost. Personal relationships were sacrificed on the altar of ambition, leaving him with a reputation for being cold and unapproachable.

He glanced at his watch, noting the time of his next meeting. Despite his busy schedule, his thoughts frequently drifted to his grandmother, Eleanor. She was the one person who had always believed in him, even when others doubted his abilities. But now, Eleanor was frail and in need of constant care, and Tristan struggled to find someone trustworthy enough to look after her.

"Mr. Baker your grandmother's nurse has resigned," his assistant informed him, a hint of concern in her voice. "We'll need to find a replacement as soon as possible."

Tristan's jaw tightened. He couldn't afford any distractions, yet he knew he had to ensure his grandmother received the best care possible. "Arrange for interviews," he said curtly. "I want this resolved immediately."

As the day drew to a close, Tristan reviewed the list of potential caregivers, his frustration mounting with each unsatisfactory candidate. He needed someone reliable, compassionate, and capable of handling his grandmother's needs. Someone who could break through the barriers he had built around his heart.
