Chapter 06: towards an unknown curve

---

Upon entering the classroom, where I was supposed to head this morning according to the schedule provided by Mrs. Wilson, I saw several members sitting on the circular chairs surrounding the room. It was literally a simple room with dim lighting and wide windows that gave off the impression of an old castle.

So it wasn't just a guess; it was indeed an old castle as I had precisely imagined. When I directed my gaze towards the old wooden walls, I saw bookshelves in the distance. Unable to contain my curiosity, I walked towards them to take a quick look at the books there.

I ran my fingers over the thick book covers until my eyes fell on the title of a book that caught my attention. So, after ensuring no one was watching me, I took the book and sat at a secluded table to read it. The book was titled "Secrets of the Underworld." Whatever they were going to teach us or train us in, nothing was better than reading to explore the truth.

I glanced at the clock and realized I still had time to read before the first class began.

When I opened the heavy book cover, I noticed a folded white paper on the first page. It looked somewhat old with visible signs of wear. I set it aside and began flipping through the pages, noticing illustrations that seemed very frightening at first glance-drawings of non-human creatures, or more precisely, creatures from the underworld. They looked a bit like demons, with their terrifying tails and faces that filled me with dread and made me shiver all over.

How do they fight these creatures, for heaven's sake?

From what I understood from Vicky, she was trapped in the back forest and no one could cross the boundaries due to a magical spell cast by some sorcerers, preventing them from doing so. But I also knew that the first trainers were allowed to enter. So, do they really see such creatures there?

When I turned to the next page, I saw a detailed drawing of another terrifying creature under the name "Ruler of the Underworld." They had a ruler too. It did not resemble humans at all, with its frightening features and long tail. I still couldn't believe that such creatures existed in our world-monstrous and dangerous beings that could destroy the world if it weren't for us, the bearers of noble blood.

"Ruler of the Underworld, also known as Erckala, is a dark entity and one of the most powerful creatures in the underworld. It can control all other creatures and cause widespread damage in its realm. Killing it requires a single stab to the heart with the Eldora dagger by one of the Russo descendants."

It was really frightening.

When I turned the page again, my eyes fell on a title written in bold letters beneath a drawing of an old family.

"The Russo lineage is one of the strongest among the bearers of noble blood in the fifteenth century, also known for their illustrious history against the underworld creatures. One of their ancestors, Christopher Russo, killed the strongest creature there, leading to a war between the bearers of noble blood and the underworld creatures after killing their ruler. After the war, most members of this lineage were killed, but no one knows their whereabouts now. Their location remains a mystery to this day. However, if anyone wishes to confront Erckala, they must belong to this lineage as they are the only ones capable of killing its rulers."

My curiosity increased, and I reviewed more pages of the book, discovering more strange information that I never would have believed.

When I noticed another title that caught my attention, I straightened my posture and began to read with interest after glancing at the atmosphere in the room.
