Chapter 04: supernatural
---
I feel like my head is going to explode any moment now. Everything around me was literally black—pitch dark, through which I couldn't see anything.
Let’s take a step back. Last night, I’m trying to remember what happened and why I feel this headache that’s about to crush my head.
Okay, a party... a drink... Vicky... an arrogant fool... Jack the nice one... wait a minute... yes, the strange man... his frightening fangs... my escape into the forbidden forest... darkness... panic... the sound of my ragged breaths.
And of course, the strangest thing was the raven suddenly turning into Aiden Wheeler.
Impossible.
I was hoping I would wake up and realize it was just a silly dream, like my dreams always are... Please, let it be a dream!
Because if what I saw last night was real, it means I have indeed lost my mind.
When I tried to open my eyes with difficulty, my vision was unclear. I tried closing and opening them again, hoping the vision would become clearer. That’s when I saw someone staring at me. I couldn’t distinguish them clearly, but I realized it was Vicky when she spoke, holding my hand tightly.
_ Mary, are you okay? she asked in a tense tone.
_ I don’t think so. My head is about to explode, and I had a strange dream. Oh my God, I said in a sluggish voice.
I held my head with both hands and struggled to sit up. When I saw her face, her worried features became clear to me.
_ What happened last night? I had the weirdest dream. I dreamt of a vampire; can you believe that?
At the end of my sentence, I let out a sarcastic laugh at the silly dream and looked at Vicky, who showed no reaction to my words. So I continued to recount my dream, bewildered.
_ And I also dreamt that a black raven turned into Aiden. I know it’s very silly.
She watched me silently and seemed hesitant to speak, which increased my doubts about the evening. Aside from my silly dream, I wanted to know what really happened and how I didn’t remember anything afterward, as if my memory had been erased. So I asked her with a worried expression.
_ What’s wrong, Vicky? Did something happen last night?
She didn’t speak at first, still sitting quietly with a fearful look, as if afraid to reveal the truth. I tried to recall what happened but to no avail.
I don’t remember anything, not even how I ended up in my bed. After a few seconds of silence, she finally broke it, her eyes narrowing as she spoke.
_ Mary, I need you not to be scared or too surprised. I know it’s hard to believe, but try to understand a little, okay?
What?
With my curiosity and fear about her answer, I nodded for her to continue. I gripped the blanket tightly and looked at her from under my lashes.
_ Your dream was real. It wasn’t a dream, Mary.
No...
Could it really be?
_ Nice joke, but you didn’t fool me, Vicky!
I said jokingly, breaking the calm atmosphere with my laughter filling the room. Vicky, in contrast, remained stunned in her place. I noticed her fidgeting with her rings and how she was holding her jaw in confusion.
