After the date, Allison drove us back to her house. She kept talking about how she thinks her and Jackson are perfect for each other. I zoned out. My mind was in other places. Such as Jared and my power.
"Hello, earth to Katherine?" Allison waved a hand in front of my face.
"What?" I ask snapping out of my thoughts.
"I just asked you how things went for you. Are you alright?"
"I don't thinks so. Besides the fact that I have super powers..." I took a deep breath. Allison is gonna freak. "I think that maybe, I might like Jared."
"Oh my god!" Allison shrieked. "I told you that you just had to give him a chance."
"Yeah, I know. But I'm not sure yet."
"'I'm not sure yet.'" Allison mimicked me. "Of course you are. Otherwise you wouldn't tell me."
"Just don't make a huge deal out of nothing." I pleaded. Sometimes it sucked that she knew me so well.
Allison shut her mouth, but was staring at me with a grin.
"Stop staring," I say.
"Fine." She looks away for a moment then looks back. "Why do you think you like him?"
"I don't know! This isn't therapy!" I shout.
Allison frowns and faces the road. "Best friends are supposed to share everything." She responds icily.
"I'm sorry, I'm just... stressed." I apologize. I look out the window for the rest of the ride.
I look at Allison as we get out of her car. She looks hurt. I really didn't mean to upset her. But I think I know just the trick.
I walk to Allison's fridge and pull out a tub of ice cream. "How about some rocky road?"
Allison smiles and grabs two spoons. "I'm a sucker for ice cream aren't I?"
"Yes you are," We plop down on the couch.
"How about some Netflix?"
"Do you even need to ask?"
**
"Beep, beep..."
I crack my eyes open. Sunlight is streaming in through the windows, blinding me. I sit up. Allison is asleep next to me. The T.V. is on.
"Beep, beep..."
I look at my phone. My alarm reminding me of work is going off. I check the time, it's 1:00 p.m.
"Allison!" I scream, while shaking her.
"What?" She jumps up.
"I'm going to be late for work!" I run up to her room to find an outfit.
"How did we sleep so late?" Allison asks following me upstairs.
"Well, let me think. Watching the whole first season of Firefly in one sitting will do that to you." I respond sarcastically.
Allison glared at me as she brushed her teeth. "Since I have to take you to work, I guess I'll go to Millie's Boutique and get my training out of the way."
"We have like ten minutes till we have to leave, so don't take forever." Sometimes Allison can take a long time to get ready.
"Whatever," Allison scoffed.
I quickly did my hair and got dressed. I decided to skip my makeup due to lack of time. Allison was slipping on her shoes, when I was walking out the door.
"Hey, wait up!"
"I can't get very far without you. You have the keys."
"Okay, I'm here." Allison unlocked the car and got in.
I opened my door and climbed in. "Let's get going."
Allison and I sang along to the radio for the whole ride to Frozone's.
"See you in several hours," Allison said.
"Kk." I hopped out.
I began walking to the back entrance when my friend and coworker spotted me.
"Sidney, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Just come inside..." She responded. I scanned my card, following Sidney inside. "Someone must have left the freezer door open. Everything melted."
"That's not good. What did Frozone say?"
"He's not here and I can't get ahold of him."
"Definitely not good." I frowned. "You go to front and do whatever you have to. I'll deal with the froyo."
I quickly made my way to the freezer. How are we supposed to run a frozen yogurt shop if the yogurt isn't frozen? I opened the door.
"Crud." Everything was melted. But then again, I do have a special power. I grabbed a tub of raspberry froyo. I imagined the slush freezing. "Brr."
I imagined the remaining tubs to become more frozen. Soon everything was frozen instead of melted.
I ran to the front and found Sidney trying to explain to our first customers the current situation we were in.
"Sidney, everything is fine now."
She breathed a sigh of relief. "It seems we have everything under control. What flavors can I start you guys off with."
I hurried back to freezer to figure out why it hadn't been working properly. I didn't think anyone forgot to shut the door like Sidney suggested.
I walked inside the freezer. Glancing around I managed to locate the thermostat.
"Fifty degrees Fahrenheit." I read. "That won't do."
I turned the knob down to thirty degrees Fahrenheit. I shivered at the change of temperature. Somebody must of bumped the dial.
At least it's fixed now. I walked to the cash register. Hopefully my shift would go by quick so I could tell Allison about my accomplishment.
