💙 She replied, "I appreciate your kindness, but as a young woman living alone, I think it's best if you go back to your room. We're still getting to know each other, and in Myanmar, it's better this way. I'll manage the rain on my own. Thank you for looking out for me."

He nodded understandingly. "Alright then, I'll head back. But please remember, if you ever feel unwell or need any help, don't hesitate to come to me. We're neighbors after all, and I'm here to be the best neighbor I can be. The rain will pass soon." With a reassuring smile, he turned and walked back to his room.

As soon as he closed the door behind him, he leaned against it, his hands trembling slightly as he placed them over his racing heart. "You've found a place in my heart, Maria," he whispered softly to himself.

He skipped dinner, lay down on the bed, closed his eyes, and replayed the sensation of Maria's touch in his mind.

Feeling compelled, he rose from the bed, settled at his writing desk, took a deep breath, and with pen in hand, began to write:

"Your name suggests you may not have been born in Myanmar, but it has already captured my heart. Since I was a child, I've had a habit I can't hide-when I desire something, I pursue it relentlessly. I want to understand why thunder frightens you so much and assure you I'll protect you from it.

Maria, I must confess something to you: from the moment I first laid eyes on you, I knew I wanted you to be mine. What do you think of me?

If you're not already taken, let me attempt to be the one for you, Maria. Let me cherish you for the rest of our lives together. I want to learn everything about you-your vulnerabilities, your pains. Share them all with me, Maria.

When I held you in my arms, my heart told me that I wanted to care for you indefinitely. I've never been in a relationship before, dedicating years to upholding my parents' honor in pursuit of my ambitions.

Yet, now, I'm captivated by you. I've come to believe in love at first sight, Maria. All my pride and dignity have melted away because of you.

So, please allow me to love you."

With a heart overflowing with love, he finished writing.

As soon as he finished, he brought his small bottle of wine into the room and filled his glass. He spent the night thinking about her, sipping wine. 💙
