💙 Thiha said, "Let’s talk about our favorite colors. Like before, we’ll count to 1, 2, 3, and then share."
Maria said, "White," and Thiha replied, "Black." Thiha remarked, "It looks like our favorite colors are opposites."
They laughed and then went to have breakfast.
At the restaurant, the conversation turned to breakfast choices. Thiha turned to Maria with a smile and asked, "Maria, what’s your usual breakfast choice? Let’s decide like we did before. On the count of 1, 2, 3, we’ll share our favorite breakfasts."
Maria eagerly responded, "Okay, so let’s decide: 1, 2, 3." Thiha promptly said, "Nan Gyi Thoke," and Maria chimed in, "Nan Gyi Thoke." Thiha, noticing their shared taste, joked, "Looks like we both have a thing for Nan Gyi Thoke!"
Maria asked, "I’m having Nan Gyi Thoke and coffee. What about you, Thiha?"
Thiha replied cheerfully, "I’m enjoying Nan Gyi Thoke with tea."
Maria smiled warmly and reminisced, "I’ve loved it since my time in Myanmar. Burmese rice dishes and traditional Burmese food, along with the bread, are among my favorites."
During breakfast, Thiha asked, "Maria, you mentioned you still enjoy the breakfast you had in Myanmar. Which country did you move to after leaving Myanmar?"
Maria shared, "I currently live in New York. I came to Myanmar because my adoptive parents, who were from New York, passed away in a car accident two years ago. Their loss made me deeply nostalgic for Myanmar, where I first met them, and now I feel drawn to return."
Tears welled up in Maria’s eyes as she continued, "The condo I’m staying in is rented just for a month. After that, I’ll return to New York. I have a strong desire to visit the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar, where I first met my adoptive parents. It’s a place that holds dear memories for me. I also want to find solace and peace of mind during my time in Myanmar."
Maria added, "I also plan to visit the orphanage where I grew up, but I haven’t been able to locate it yet. It seems the orphanage has moved from its original location, possibly replaced by residential apartments. I’ve shared quite a bit about myself; I hope it’s not burdensome for you."
Thiha reassured her, "No, your story doesn’t bother me at all. If you ever need any help, just let me know. I’ll do whatever I can to assist you."
Maria expressed her gratitude, "Thank you so much for your kindness. We’re still getting to know each other. I’m a fashion designer; I’ve recently opened my own fashion store and I’m pouring my heart into this job that I love. What about you?"
Thiha responded, "I’m a government lawyer. My family insisted I get a law degree, but I love to sing. If
given the chance, I would pursue a career as a singer."
Maria laughed and said, "I think you can sing beautifully! I’ll be your first fan when you become a singer one day." Thiha said, "Thank you! By the way, how old are you? I’m 28. How about you?" Maria replied with a sweet smile, "I’m 5 years older than you."
Thiha said, "Then let’s have dinner at the restaurant tonight. We’ll leave in my car at 7:00 p.m., so be ready. If you don’t mind, could you share your phone number with me so I can reach out when necessary?
I’ll also give you my number and the password to my room so you can call and come by anytime you need assistance." Maria mentioned, "We’re just neighbors and friends, so I’m comfortable sharing our phone numbers. But I’d prefer not to give you my room password, as I’m a woman and you’re a man."
With that, they finished their breakfast conversation beautifully. 💙
✨"Grateful
for your time spent
