💙 The evening for dinner had arrived. Maria got ready, applied her makeup, and waited for Thiha. At 6:00 p.m., Thiha took a quick shower and then went to pick up Maria.
When Maria opened the door, she saw Thiha dressed in dark blue jeans and a white shirt.
Maria stared at Thiha for a moment, thinking, "Wow, you’re so handsome, Thiha."
Thiha asked, "Maria, how do I look? Is my outfit okay?"
Maria replied, "You look even better in that white shirt than before."
Thiha smiled and said, "You already know that I’m handsome and modest. And you look stunning in that black dress.
You always look beautiful, and I’m so lucky to have you as my friend and neighbor. You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met, even back in my teenage years.
I can’t stop smiling every time I see you. Oh, beautiful lady, let’s go to the restaurant."
When they arrived at the restaurant, they enjoyed their dinner together. After finishing their meal, the restaurant manager handed out invitations to all the customers.
Maria and Thiha opened their invitations and read:
"We will be holding a singing competition at our 'Moonlight' restaurant next Sunday to celebrate our 5th anniversary.
Anyone with a passion for singing is welcome to compete. Even if you’re not competing, all our invited guests are welcome to come and watch.
All attendees who cheer and sing along will be treated to free food that night, and you can enjoy wine and beer as well.
The winners and losers of the competition will be decided by audience votes. Prizes include:
- 1st Prize: 3,000,000 kyats
- 2nd Prize: 2,000,000 kyats
- 3rd Prize: 1,000,000 kyats, and all three winners will get a free five-day trip to Chaung Tha beach. We respectfully invite you to join us and sing at this event."
After reading the invitation, they headed back home.
It was already 9:30 p.m. When they arrived at the condo gate, Thiha said, "Maria, let’s take a walk inside the condo, under the lampposts and moonlight."
Maria replied, "I don’t dare to walk outside. Let’s go back to the condo; it’s already raining heavily. Soon, it will rain harder, and there might be thunder.
I’m scared. Please just drive me back to the condo. You know how I feel about storms. I don’t want to be outside if it starts thundering. I’m really scared."
Thiha asked, "Are you scared of the rain every time in every rainy season? Have you never walked in the rain?"
Maria answered, "Yes, ever since I was 4 years old, the sound of thunder at night has always frightened me.
It still does today. I never walk in the rain either. If it starts raining while I’m out, I always find somewhere to wait until it stops. It’s just too much hassle otherwise." Thiha then said, "We can conquer our fears if we try. Have you ever thought about turning what you fear into something you love? But if you never try, you’ll never know just what you’re worth. Life is too short, Maria. I’m by your side. Let’s walk in the rain together.
Just hold my hand and don’t be afraid of the thunder. I’m here with you, and I’ll do my best to help you."
With that, Maria and Thiha held each other’s hands tightly and walked together in the heavy rain. As they walked, Maria looked at the sky with apprehension.
When the sound of thunder began, Maria immediately let go of Thiha’s hand, covered her ears, and crouched on the road.
Thiha gently pulled her hands away from her ears and hugged her tightly from behind, holding her hands firmly. 💙
