The morning rays shone through the blinds of multiple buildings in the heart of Inkopolis. It didn't take long for an energetic inkling to get her eyes open and start her day. She swiftly got up with a stretch, showered, brushed their beak and slipped on their uniform. It consisted of a pair of black knee-high socks, a button up white shirt, a patterned tie and skirt, with a beige v-neck sweater and a blazer neatly overtop. They adjusted their fringe to snap on a hairclip, which was a part of the uniform as well. She gave herself a look over in the mirror, ever so slightly adjusting her attire. Giving themself a confident and reassuring nod, she walked downstairs to prepare herself some breakfast, beginning to lightly hum 'Tide Goes Out'. Loneliness was never much of an issue for Reef, yet she despised if things were too quiet for long, so they decided to give themself some of their own little ambience. Grabbing the slice of toast and putting it in her mouth to begin eating, she checked their phone, glazing over the screen and mindlessly opening Squidder. They saw some news headlines, reading things such as 'ESTEEMED SCIENTIST AND RESEARCHER STILL MISSING'

'INVESTIGATION ONGOING - VINCENT AND ZAPFISH DISAPPEARANCE'

'GREAT ZAPFISH GONE - TURF WARS CANCELED'

They let out an exhale at the news feed, it all felt like doom and gloom, they shook it off and looked at some memes instead. She just hoped it was an exaggeration to get more clicks, she enjoyed her occasional Turf War here and there. It wasn't halfway through her scrolling it clicked, almost choking on her breakfast, she practically threw their phone into her bag and threw it on their back, stumbling to put her shoes on.

"Nonono! Not again! How do I always manage to sleep in?!" Her thoughts raced in a panic, nearly falling out the door and basically trying to inhale their breakfast, she went to leave before looking back at a picture of her parents on the wall. She took a brief second to smile at the photo.

"Bye mum, bye dad!" Fully aware she was talking to a still image, they waved eagerly as she proceeded to make haste to their school.

Bursting into their classroom, they huffed. Doubling over for a second. "Sorry for being late, miss!" She took her seat and face planted onto their desk, taking a minute to try to collect themself.

To most of the school, Reef was just the weird transfer student, she was so weirdly obsessed with fantasy things. But to herself? She was just a polite girl looking for friends, just wanting to share her interests with others, she didn't care who, just as long as she could ramble, she was happy. One student let out a sharp inhale at the yellow inkling's distributive behaviour, glancing up at them, she noticed it was Droplet. She was dressed in the same uniform Reef was, as was most of the school, but Droplet's ink was a very interesting shade of blue, not to mention she was REALLY short. It was kinda intriguing that she hasn't had a growth spurt yet. She was also the top of all her classes, she was almost religious about studying and knew practically EVERYTHING. Especially about humans. It was really cool how smart she was! But also a little terrifying...

"Does she ever play Turf War? Does she actually have fun outside of studying? Why is her ink so unique? Why is she so-" Not catching themself staring at their admired classmate, she was snapped back to reality by her name being called.

"Reef, do you know the answer?" The jellyfish teacher queried.

"Sorry- what was the question?" She asked sheepishly, and Droplet rolled her eyes at Reef's ignorance, irritated by her accidentally stalling the lesson.
