Marley-
When we get closer,. Marley feels an aura of calmness around the air around us. The quiet before the storm. The city is less hectic than the outskirts, as if they were expecting something but were better prepared for it. The odd fog hasn't yet reached the city. She glances down at her cellphone once more; the network is still out. Maddie looks over at me and asked, Do you think Mom is okay?
Marley reaches over and squeezes her hand. She responded, " Yeah. The hospital is safest place for her to be."
Marley glances back at the kids. Who are now both sound asleep. She kept thinking about how eventually they would have to explain to them about their mom. They won't be seeing her again, but maybe there is a small bit of hope that maybe she can be cured and the three will be reunited someday. Marley opens the note again and thinks to herself, how do we know for sure this Meg person is still alive? Will she even be home? Ted seem intense; he keeps looking down at his phone every few minutes.
How far away are we from hospital? He asked.
" About ten minutes away."
"When we get there, it has be quick in and out," said Ted.
The further we drive into the city,. Things appear different. The panic has broken out! There are cars and buildings on fire and broken windows from people robbing stores. It doesn't take long for us to get to the hospital. He pulls into the parking lot.
"Ted and I will go in. You guys stay in the car! Don't let anyone take the car. Maddie, please stay here." Marley knows her sister all too well; she never listens to a word she says. Maddie promised to stay in the car. Teddy and Marley rush to the front doors.
The hospital was filled with patients in hallways and waiting rooms. Marley begin frantically searching for her mom. She walks up to nurses station. Two girls sat at the desk. You can see how stressed the two girls are.
"What floor is Amy Lane on? I'm her daughter," She asked.
The girl with black hair barely looks up at me and says, " She's on the 5th floor today. "
"Thank you! Hurry, let's go," said Ted.We run through a crowded hall to the nearest elevators. Ted pushes the button, but he keeps looking down at his phone. He aggressively pushes the button again and shouts, We don't have time for this!
"Stop! What is wrong with you?" Marley exclaims.
Ted looks up at me before he can respond. The elevator finally reaches our floor, and the door opens. He barely gives a few people on the elevator time to get out the doors well enough before shoving Marley inside. He aggressively pushes the number. "You'll understand later," he says.
A moment later, the elevator finally reaches the 5th floor. The doors open, and we quickly rush out. Marley looks around the hallway, trying to decide which way to go. Marley stops one of the nurses and asks if they know where her mom is. She points down the hallway towards the baby delivery department. Marley and Ted rush down the hallway.
Marley sees her mom coming out of a patient room. She shouts, Mom! Starts running towards her. She looks up at Marley.
Are you okay? She asked
"Mom I'm so happy to see you! Maddie is in the car waiting for us. We have to go."
Go where? She asked.
"We don't have time to explain. We have to go now," said Ted.
Marley looks up; she notices the lights above are starting to flicker. She grabs her mom's arm and starts to pull her down the hallway. She needed to hurry and get back to Maddie. The elevator door opens, and we quickly get in.
