The BTS precinct was unusually calm for a change when a new case came in. Jin, with his clipboard and serious demeanor, gathered everyone in the briefing room.
“Alright, team. We’ve got a serious case here,” Jin said, trying to maintain his authority. “A woman reported a robbery, and we have five suspects. We need to get a confession.”
Hoseok, always the most enthusiastic, clapped his hands together. “Interrogation time! Let’s do this.”
The suspects were brought into the interrogation room one by one, and Hoseok decided to take a different approach to crack the case. He whispered his plan to the others, who looked at him with varying degrees of skepticism and amusement.
Jin nodded reluctantly. “Fine, but if this goes wrong, you’re cleaning the bathrooms for a month.”
Hoseok grinned and stepped into the room with the first suspect. He dimmed the lights and turned on a small spotlight, giving the room a dramatic flair. “Alright, Mr. Kim, you’re here because you’re a suspect in a robbery. Now, I need to know one thing… can you tell me why you stole those dumplings?”
The suspect, confused, stammered, “I didn’t steal any dumplings. I don’t even like dumplings.”
Hoseok nodded thoughtfully. “I see. Then can you tell me… who’s responsible for stealing hearts with their sweet voices?”
The suspect blinked. “What?”
Hoseok suddenly started humming the opening notes of “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. The others, watching through the two-way mirror, looked at each other, trying to suppress their laughter.
Hoseok continued, now singing the lyrics. “You are my fire, the one desire…”
To everyone’s surprise, the suspect joined in, albeit nervously. “Believe when I say, I want it that way.”
Hoseok’s face lit up. “Alright, now we’re getting somewhere. Next!”
The second suspect came in, and Hoseok repeated his tactic. This time, the suspect seemed more enthusiastic, harmonizing with Hoseok. By the time they got to the third suspect, the rest of the team had started to join in from behind the mirror, singing along softly.
When the fourth and fifth suspects came in, the interrogation room had turned into a full-blown Backstreet Boys karaoke session. The suspects, completely caught up in the music, were laughing and singing along with Hoseok, who was now dancing dramatically around the room.
Just as they reached the chorus for the fifth time, Jin burst into the room, clapping his hands. “Alright, enough! This isn’t a concert!”
The suspects looked sheepish but couldn’t stop grinning. Hoseok, slightly out of breath, turned to Jin. “But Captain, I think I cracked the case.”
Jin raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? And how did singing boy band songs help with that?”
Hoseok pointed to the third suspect, who had been the most enthusiastic singer. “This guy here, he was the most nervous at the start. But once we got to the second verse, he slipped up. He mentioned a detail only the thief would know – the brand of the stolen watch.”
The suspect’s eyes widened. “How did you…?”
Hoseok smirked. “Gotcha.”
The team celebrated their unconventional victory, laughing and joking about their impromptu performance. Jin shook his head, unable to hide his smile. “Alright, alright. Good job, everyone. But no more boy band interrogations. Understood?”
Hoseok saluted. “Yes, Captain!”
