| THE ENTIRE VILLAGE WAS STILL UNKNOWN TO YOU, AND IT FRUSTRATED YOU SINCE YOU ALWAYS FIGURED DIPLOMACY SHOULD BE COME EASY TO YOU. Developing connections proved harder than you thought. The task was to integrate yourself in a found and tight community, which you shared very little similarities with. I'm human and so are you! As you see the list of commonalities wasn't very long. Thankfully, the village and you were adaptive, meaning the feat was plausible. After all, if personalities like Gen's and Senku's could do it, why couldn't you?
Your bond established with the mentalist's was the quickest to achieve in this new world; however, its easiness came from you both prevailing from the same era. Kohaku's bond was proof of character, for you never played nor intended to play any superficialities to the woman. To be on her good side, the rule was simple: be a good person. Kaseki's bond was made out of shared time. Like any senior in any time, just talk to them thus make them feel appreciated. Besides, you enjoyed talking to the elderly man because somehow, for his age, he made you feel rejuvenated instead with his outbursts of energy and niceties.
Only three people you could genuinely connect to...
Okay, well, you've only been out of the stone for three days, so little progress was to be expected. You just couldn't help wanting to be everyone's best friend already...
You heard Chrome yammering to Senku in a distance, and your bored self figured to intrude. "Yo Senku!" the man shouted. "I may haven't beat you at science yet, but when it comes to the gathering of materials, I'm hundreds of billions of times better than you!" You observed how he was decked in a mining uniform. You couldn't help but click your tongue in impress.
"Yeah probably," the main scientist smiled, "I haven't served for as long as you have."
"So what do you want?! Expedition chief Chrome will get it for ya!" he pointed at himself righteously, and your boredom then triumphed as an idea peaked. You were quick to gear up as he spoke. "As always, there's got to be something on the cellphone-making road map that we're missing right?!"
"Me too!" you chirped, adding yourself in with glee. "I want to contribute! I can't do my really cool part yet, and I don't want to laze around doing zilch."
"Sure! You can definitely tag along! But uhh, Yeah we're missing..." Senku played with his ear. "Nothin'," he carefreely smiled. You weren't sure if you should put the flashlight you found back, but an annoyed sigh came out of you. "Girl, I'm so bored. What do you mean nothing?" you grumbled, crossing your arms.
"Nothing?" Chrome said with a deflated voice.
Senku seemed to take note of your defeated stances, and he put a finger to his chin as if he was thinking, "Kukuku, well... I wouldn't mind having some mountains of copper and stuff lying around. For our next demon level project, we're going to be wasting a lot of it."
And with that, you high-fived Chrome who you barely knew and enthusiastically started jumping up and down like kids. "Adventure adventure," you smiled happily. "I know I know!" He said with the same energy.
"Come back soon! Before New Year's Day next week!" Senku spoke like a mother to her kids.
...
With that, you stumbled into the forest with Chrome. If Senku trusted him, you surely could. The stroll was a humble reminder that you were not one with nature, but you progressed for the sake of progress. "Hey, y/n? Have you ever mined before?" he inquired with the slight wonder of you being a hindrance. You made a face, "Uhm, Minecraft. So yes. No? I mean how different is it from Minecraft?"
"What's Minecraft?" he mumbled, thinking it was a tournament. "Uhhh, the most played video game of all time besides Mario, duh," you replied. "OHHH, Senku mentioned video games to me. They seem awesome! Interactive worlds and stories at just the grasp of your hand and featured on a weird light screen!" Chrome excitedly recounted.
"That weird light screen would be a TV! Created in the 1930's, but it was heavily promoted to the public more in the 1960's because of the advancements made in the Space Race," you recited. Chrome wow'ed. "You're smart too!" he exclaimed, and you scratched the back of your neck. "My forte is history and literature... Unless you need someone to explain the Neolithic Revolution, Malthusian Theory, Nietzschean Nihilism, or the father of absurdism... I'm not much help. I can't explain the world like Senku does," you demurely spoke.
"THE WHAT WHAT WHAT? HUH? You're so modest but you just said a whole bunch of what! That's amazing!" Chrome yelled in amazement. You grew a little flustered. "It's not that impressive," you mumbled as you followed the eager boy.
"So... what's literature?" Chrome asked- he was confused about that part but he was sure Senku said it before.
"Books," you smiled although a little sad at the reminder. "They were how we preserved thoughts, ideas, history... We entrusted it all to them, but now they're gone. What I would do to reread Sun Tzu's Art of War... especially considering our given situation," you spoke as the two of you stopped in front of the cave. "Wait... so they're not like... something we can build back?" Chrome looked at you, tilting his head.
You shook your head in response. "Even if we tried, it'd take someone with incredible memory to replicate every single lost word. So many languages, too. They're gone. I can only hope I retain what I know like Senku," you sadly said.
Chrome's eyes grew teary for you, and you realized then that this was an extremely empathetic character. "Science will find a way to bring literature back. I just know it can!" Chrome reassuringly said with his heart on his sleeve. You smiled and somehow... you believed him. That's silly? Weren't you intending on going out of your way for him?
a/n: ngl, as I was writing this chapter, I caught the feels for chrome LIKE I HAVE NEVER FELT SO IN TUNE WITH A CHARACTER like I understood him and everything. He's just like me not bc we're both adventurers but bc I also have dark brown hair and fw senku heavy
