I wrote this poem after my grandmother passed away, for context. She passed on christmas eve, december 24th, 2023, at 9:32pm.
When I think of our scarce time, my heart aches as if caving in on itself, as if tumbling down the mountain we call love.
I grasp your tattered, thin, weak hands in my own, the sheer icy feel of them further shattering my heart.
I sing you lullabies, I kiss your cheeks, and yet, it's too late. Your eyes are dark, the spark of life they once held long gone.
Your body may be warm, and your heart beating, but I know that you've already departed this realm.
I wish I could rewind time, to go and say the thanks, the sorries, the I love you's, to you once more.
To hear your voice again.
But alas, the time has come to say goodbye.
To say the last "I love you."
