Flash
As soon as I enter the bar, the persistent scent of stale beer greets me. Lively conversation and the clinking of glasses fill the atmosphere. As I approach the counter, a familiar voice greets me.
"Hey Flash!" Antoine, the bartender, smiles warmly.
"Hey, Antoine," I reply, sliding onto a barstool. "I've seen better days."
Antoine chuckles, pouring me a drink. "Haven't we all? What brings you to Freedom Town?"
Taking a small sip, I relish the refreshing water.
"Just passing through. I've got to say, I'm impressed with how this place turned out. Though, I noticed some wrecks just outside of town. It seemed like a big fight happened."
"Yeah, we've had some troubles."
"Who fought there? And where can I find these people?" I ask.
Just as Antoine is about to provide an answer, a young woman's voice interrupts the conversation. "The Silver Fleet defended the town, along with me and Hero."
I look and see a girl with caramel skin. Her eyes are sharp, yet there's a softness in her demeanour. I have a moment of recognition.
"I remember you," I say, nodding. "You're the girl with that little... Ah, Hero. That boy at the camp."
So he did all this stuff. He could help us find the Pale Eyehound and finally take that guy down. I've been hunting down that monster for ages. Besides, Hero's car might be super useful.
She smiles. "Emily. And that little hero, is my best friend."
I give a knowing look and smirk playfully. "Best friend, huh? I thought you two looked more than that."
Emily's eyes go wide, her cheeks turning bright red.
She looks away and bites her lower lip. I must have hit a nerve.
"Where's he?"
"He's... he's gone to the East," she says.
This is such a disappointment... I have to find two dudes... and they're both off the grid.
East is something, at least.
I take another sip of my drink, trying to mask my frustration.
"No surprise," I say, rising and heading towards the exit.
Emily gazes in my direction, her eyes growing wider. "If you need to find him, I can help. I owe him everything. We all do."
I nod and say, "Thanks, but no thanks."
Then I stride out of the bar, feeling the urgency of my mission all over my body.
As I make my way to my vehicle, my warriors swiftly gather.
"Mount up!" I shout, my voice cutting through the evening air. "We're heading East."
As my colleagues rush to their cars, the smell of gasoline reaches my nose.
I get into the driver's seat, start the engine, and look at the sunset over the desert.
Then I step on the gas, and we head east.
Under my breath, I mutter, "Hero, I'm coming for you."
