Thomas

I feel as if my eyes are deceiving me. There's no way she is standing at my door right now. I blink, thinking this will make her disappear, but she doesn't. She's still there, beautiful as ever.

"Hi, Thomas."

"Elizabeth?" My heart stops beating for a moment. "What- What are you doing here?"

"I don't know." I step aside, letting her in. I shut the door behind her, and she sighs. "I- I really don't know why I came here. I took Luke's keys to take a drive to clear my head, and the next thing I know, I kept on driving until I got here."

"Elizabeth I-" The sound of the doorbell cuts me off. Oh, shit.

"Oh, were you expecting someone? Of course you were. I shouldn't have come here." She goes to open the door, and I try to stop her, but it's no use. She opens the door, coming face to face with Sophia. Elizabeth whips around, her eyes glassy as she stares at me. "I knew it. I knew I shouldn't have come here. I was going to try to hear you out. I was going to try to give you a chance to fix this, but I was stupid." She looks back at Sophia and scoffs. "Have fun. I'm out of here."

"Elizabeth, wait." I say, chasing after her towards the car.

"Leave me alone, Thomas. Go back inside and be with her." I grab her wrist, turning her to face me.

"No."

"Thomas-"

"No, Elizabeth. You came here for a reason, and I'm not letting you walk away." She takes her wrist out of my grip, opening the car door.

"Goodbye, Thomas." She gets in, and before I could stop her, she was gone.

"Thomas?" Sophia calls, and I turn to look at her. "Are we doing this or not?"

"Yeah." I say, walking back into the house, shutting the door behind us. "Let's do this."

Elizabeth

I knew I shouldn't have gone there. Oh my God, why was I so stupid? I drove five hours just to be hit with the realization that he'll never change. I can't believe I was going to give him a second chance. I was going to let him tell me whatever excuse he could come up with just to win me back. I would've fallen for anything. The sound of my phone ringing drags me from my thoughts.

"Hello?" I answer without even seeing who it was.

"Where the fuck are you?" Luke's voice comes blaring through the phone. He's pissed, and I can't blame him.

"Home." I say, my voice cracking.

"You went to see him?" He asks, his voice softening ever so slightly. "Elizabeth, why would you do that?"

"I don't know, Luke." I say, sobbing. "I thought maybe, just maybe, I could've forgiven him."

"What happened?" He asks, his voice soft.

"He was with Sophia." My heart breaks even more as the image of her standing there floods my brain. "I can't believe I was so stupid. I'm coming back."

"Elizabeth, don't drive when you're upset. Take a moment to breathe, stay the night at home if you need to, and come back tomorrow."

"No." I say, my voice firm. "I can't take a chance of seeing him again before the wedding. I need to take this week to cleanse myself of him."

"Just be careful, alright? I love you, and I'll see you when you get back."

"I love you, too." I hang up, focusing my attention back on the road. All I know is that I will never make this mistake again.

Thomas

Sophia and I had just finished dinner when she sighs. I look at her, and notice a look of concern in her eyes.

"What really happened between you two?"

"It's a long story."

"I have time." She says, and I sigh, nodding.

"We had just gotten to Florida, and we had a really nice dinner with Luke and Ashley. That was until Conrad, Elizabeth's ex, showed up. We ended up fighting because he called her a slut."

"Oh my God. You fought him?" I nod, and she motions for me to continue.

"Elizabeth was cleaning up my face since I had a busted lip. One thing led to another, and we had sex for the first time. She told me she loved me, and I... I said it back."

"Thomas." She says, and I look at her. "You told her you loved her? You haven't ever loved anyone."

"I know, but I do love her. I told her I loved her, and I left." She scoffs, shaking her head.

"Typical Thomas. You get too scared so easily and bail." I shrug my shoulders, not wanting to talk about this anymore. "Thomas, why am I here? For a rebound?" She gets up, walking over and sitting on my lap. "To make you forget?" She brushes her lips against my jaw, and I tense up.

"Yeah, something like that." I say in one breath. She giggles, pressing her lips against mine.

"I can help you forget for tonight, but you know it won't last forever."

"I know, but that's all I need right now." She nods, kissing me again. Her hands find their way into my hair while mine rest on her lower back. I stand, lifting her and moving us to my bedroom. I sit her on the bed before undoing the buttons of my dress shirt. She runs her hands over my bare chest before pulling me in for a kiss. Her hand runs down my body, stopping at my crotch, and my whole body tenses up. What am I doing? I can't do this. I pull back from the kiss, taking a step away.

"Thomas, let me help you forget about her." Sophia says, and I shake my head.

"I can't do this." I run my hands over my face. "What the fuck is wrong with me?" She stands, a soft smile on her lips.

"You're in love." I stare blankly at her. "This proves that you truly care about her, and that you've changed. The old Thomas would've had me naked and on the bed by now. There wouldn't have even been a dinner."

"What are you saying exactly?"

"Go to her. She needs to know. Win her back." She gives me a light kiss on the cheek before leaving. I sit down on the bed, staring at the floor. I need to do whatever it takes to win her back. I love her, and I will prove that to her even if it kills me.
