Thomas

When I was 6, I moved to this little town in South Carolina with my parents. I knew nobody. I had no friends here. Then again, I didn't really have many friends back home either. That all changed when I met Luke. We quickly became best friends, and were inseparable.

When I was 14, I started to think of his sister, Elizabeth, as the most beautiful girl in the world. I always thought girls were hot, but her? She was more than that. I knew if I wanted my friendship with Luke to last, I needed to ignore my crush on his sister.

Thus began our ongoing hatred and petty feud that lasted many years. Through all of the pointless drama, I still found her to be the most beautiful girl in the world. She would always be beautiful to me, and now, I get to wake up next to her and kiss her whenever I want. I would call this a win-win situation.

"What are you thinking about?" Her soft voice drags me from my thoughts. I look at her, a sleepy look in her eyes from just waking up. My lips find hers, and I kiss her until she giggles, pulling away. "Good morning to you, too."

"I was just thinking about you." I say, answering her previous question. "I'm always thinking about you." She rolls her eyes, playfully. "It's true. How could I think of anything else when I got you right next to me, distracting me with that innocent smile on your face."

"Innocent, huh?" She smirks, moving so she's straddling my waist. Her hands move up and down my chest before she leans down to kiss me. My hands find her waist, pinning her to my body as she tries to move her hips slowly back and forth.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." I say, my voice rough.

"No? Why not?" She gives me a sad puppy dog look, but I see right through it.

"I don't think this is considered taking things slow." I hiss through gritted teeth as I feel myself becoming more and more aroused. I flip us over, pinning her hands above her head. My lips find hers before moving to her jaw and her neck. "You're such a tease, Lizzy."

"Maybe that's the point." She whispers seductively into my ear.

"We can't do this." I say, looking at her. "Not yet. I don't want us moving too fast and regretting it."

"I wouldn't regret it." She says, and I sigh.

"I wouldn't either, but I don't want you doing something you're not ready for."

"Who says I'm not?" I open my mouth to speak, but her phone goes off.

"You should answer that." I let her out from under me, watching as she sits up on the edge of the bed to answer her phone.

"Mom? Everything okay?" There's a moment of silence before a small gasp leaves her lips. "Oh my God, is he okay?" Panic sets in. "Yeah, I'll be there as soon as I can." She hangs up the phone, getting out of bed.

"What's going on?" I ask, watching her get dressed.

"My dad's in the hospital. He was trying to clean the gutters, and he fell. He broke his leg, but he's conscious. I need to get to the hospital to see him." I instantly get up out of bed.

"I'll drive you. Let me get dressed." She nods, and I cup her face to look at me. "He's going to be alright." I kiss her forehead and smile at her before finding clothes to change into.

Elizabeth

During the whole drive to the hospital, I can't stop fidgeting my hands. I know my dad is alright, but it's still scary to think something really bad could've happened. I feel Thomas' hand on my thigh, squeezing gently and causing me to look at him.

"You hanging in there?" He asks, knowing just how much my mind is racing right now. I nod, and he gives me a small smile. "It's going to be fine. Your dad is tough."

"Yeah, he is." I say, sighing. "I know he is, but he's getting older. He shouldn't be trying to do things like that."

"I know this is scary, but I'm here. I'm right by your side no matter what." My heart flutters at the sound of his words. I think back to this morning and what could've happened if I didn't get that phone call.

Am I ready for that kind of moment with him? Or at all? I don't know. What I do know is that he means a lot to me, and when the time is right, I do want that with him.

When we get to the hospital, Thomas parks the car and comes around to open my door. I get out of the car and instantly grab onto his hand. He gives it a gentle squeeze as we begin to head inside. We walk up to the desk in the emergency room, and the woman sitting there offers us a smile.

"How can I help you?"

"My father was brought here by ambulance. Gregory Greene." She types on her keyboard and nods.

"Room 7. Head down this hallway and take a right. Second room on the left."

"Thank you." I say, clinging onto Thomas as we head to my dad's room. As we approach room 7, my heart starts to beat extremely fast.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm right here." Thomas says, noticing my shaky hands. He gives me a soft kiss, and it calms me down just enough to be able to walk into the room.

"Hey pumpkin." My dad says, seeing me.

"Hi dad." I try to hold back tears seeing him laying there like that.

"Don't cry on my account. I'm fine, just a little banged up." He tries to crack a joke, and I shake my head.

"How are you feeling?" I ask, walking over to stand next to his bed.

"Great. I'm on painkiller so I don't feel a thing." He smiles at me, and I laugh.

"He's high as a kite." I turn to see my mom walking into the room. She gives me a tight hug. "I see Thomas is here with you. I'm glad to see you two back together." She whispers into my ear, making me turn red from embarrassment.

"Thomas! I didn't see you there." My dad says, smiling wide at him. "How are you, son?"

"I'm good. I'm glad to see you're alright."

"So, does this mean the two of you are back together?" My dad asks, looking back at me.

"We are. Officially, this time." I say, looking at Thomas. He smiles at me, and it makes me weak in the knees.

"Oh, I'm so happy. I always knew you two would end up together." My mom says, giving Thomas a hug.

"Don't suffocate them, honey." My dad laughs, grabbing my hand. "I'm very happy for you, pumpkin."

"Thanks dad." I pull up a chair so I can sit next to him. We spend the next few hours talking and trying to keep his mind off of his broken leg.

After a while, Thomas and I head back to his house. As we walk up to the door, I lean into him, my body exhausted from the day we've had. He wraps his arm around my shoulders, supporting me as we walk.

"Thank you... for everything today." I say, looking up at him.

"You don't have to thank me." He tucks some hair behind my ear before crashing his lips to mine. In this moment, I forget all about my stress and worries over my father. All I can think about is him.
