Each of the women's corpses had a pale, green-ish pallor. Their arms were raised out stiffly in front of them, and with unnervingly stretched grins on their faces, they made quite the horrifying picture.

No one could remain calm while observing a sight like that. All previous commotions forgotten. Terrified they fled, as the brides closed in on them.

Xie Lian shouted in vain, "Don't run!"

No one listened to him.

As always, whenever he said something, he could repeat it a thousand times, and yet, there would always be someone who wouldn't listen to him. Except Hua Cheng, Hua Cheng was the first person who had truly listened to him... ever. And Xie Lian loved him for that.

He waved his hand and Ruoye shot out of his sleeve. He made a hand sign and Ruoye started whirling in the air in a mad dance. When the brides noticed the strange, swirling thing in the air, a number of them were lured over. Another few were lured by the scent of blood in the forest and hobbled over there.

Xie Lian shouted: "Nan Feng! Follow them! Make sure they don't make their way into the village!" He didn't need to worry, Feng Xin was already running at them.

Two of the brides lunged at him, their polished red fingernails sharp and ready to maul him into pieces. Quickly, Xie Lian brought out two of the veils he had picked up from the floor and threw them with both hands. The two veils spun as they shot out, covering the brides' heads. Immediately, their movements paused.

As he expected, with the veils covering their noses and mouths, they could no longer sense the mortals they were trying to hunt. And since rigor mortis had long since settled in. They couldn't move their arms to remove the veils. They could only grab randomly at the air as if they were playing blind man's bluff. Xie Lian tentatively waved his hands in front of their eyes, confirming that they couldn't see, after some consideration he said, "Forgive my impropriety," and raised their hands to each other's necks.

When the brides realized that they had grasped something, they started to brutally strangle each other. Xie Lian ran, and with a wide sweep of his hand, Ruoye followed, streaking down like a shooting star, and upon landing on the ground, formed a wide circle.

Xie Lian called after the fleeing men. "Everyone, get in the circle!"

Everyone hesitated, after all, they had only just met the man. How could they know if he was truly trying to help them? However, Xiao-Ying immediately ran in the circle and after some thought, dragged Xiao-Pengtou in too. One of the brides noticed her standing there and immediately lunged at the circle. Her claws immediately bounced off the invisible wall Ruoye formed. Seeing this, Xiao-Ying shouted, "Everyone! Come quick! They can't enter the circle!"

Hearing this, the men immediately ran for the circle. After all, most of them had known Xiao-Ying their whole lives. They trusted her to help them. Thankfully, Xie lian had had Ruoye stretch to a great length, otherwise he feared that some people wouldn't be able to fit into the circle, and be left with the bloodthirsty brides. Since the brides couldn't access the people within the circle, they turned to the one person outside Ruoye's perimeter. Xie Lian. Shrieking, they lunged at him.

However, Xie Lian was expecting this and held a large bundle of veils. The huge bundle of veils dwindled as they spun up and down, left and right, and flew in all directions. Covering each of the brides' heads in one hit. When a bride's head was covered it would slow and blindly feel around. The veils in his hands became blurs as they shot out from his hands and covered bride after bride's heads. The people in the circle actually started cheering despite themselves.
