The people in the circle were also scared, they stared slack-jawed at Xuan Ji so terrified that their souls had left their bodies.
Xiao-Ying was also thoroughly terrified. Scrambling back into the circle in fear. Xuan Ji turned to the mortals and reached for them again, but Xie Lian quickly intervened.
"General, please refrain from committing more murderous sins."
He called her 'General' because he hoped that he could remind her that she used to be a heroine that fought bravely on the front lines to protect her kingdom and its people. Yet, it didn't seem to work as Xuan Ji sneered, her beautiful face twisting in resentment.
"Is he too scared to see me?" Xuan Ji said derisively.
Xie Lian started to contemplate if he should pretend to actually be sent by General Pei in hopes of smooth things out. But, Xuan Ji didn't wait for his response. She laughed crazily, whipping her head around, pointing at the divine statue.
"I burned your temples and wreaked havoc in your land, just so you would come down to see me! I've waited for centuries!"
She gazed at the statue as if in a trance, then suddenly leapt up strangling the statue with her clawed hands.
"Yet you won't come down and give me a single glance! Is it because you know how much you wronged me? Look at me! Won't you look at my legs?! Look at what I've become! I did it all for you! For you!!! Is your heart made of iron?!"
As a bystander, Xie Lian couldn't comment on what he thought was right or wrong, but he really couldn't help but think. "If you wanted him to come see you, couldn't you have gone about it using a saner method? If someone did all this just to force me to come see them, I would have zero desire to show up."
On the other end, Xiao-Ying watched them from the circle. Looking his way, she whispered concernedly. "Young master..."
Hearing her, Xie Lian gave her a reassuring smile, letting her know that she didn't need to worry. Yet unexpectedly, Xuan Ji's face instantly contorted, and she lunged at him from the diving statue. Knocking him to the floor and strangling him.
"Since you prefer to look at those girls who love smiling and won't look at me, I'll let you look to your heart's content!"
Although the one she was talking to was Xie Lian, her words were directed at General Pei. Xie Lian had thought that she was jealous of all the happy, smiling brides in their sedans because she herself couldn't marry the one she loved. He had never imagined that it was because General Pei liked happy smiling girls. So she, in her crazed, distorted mind, connected that to the happy brides who were on their way to marry their lovers. Now that he thought about it, she must have burned down all those statues of General Pei because she couldn't stand having to share his divine statues with all the women who would come in and out of the temples daily.
This female ghost was truly of Wrath level. Even with both of her legs broken she was as fast as the devil, and even after being beaten up by Ruoye, her strength was still formidable. Xie Lian didn't really want to continue being strangled like this, but just as he was going to summon Ruoye, there was a loud cry.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH–!"
Xiao-Ying saw that he couldn't hang on anymore, so she had picked up a sturdy tree branch and had come charging over herself. Xie Lian saw Xuan Ji turn to look at her and panickedly shouted in his mind. "San Lang!"
A cloud of wraith butterflies surrounded Xiao-Ying blocking the stream of black mist that had come flying out to Xiao-Ying. They lifted her away and into the circle Ruoye formed. The wraith butterflies quickly arranged themselves into a dome, protecting the mortals inside.
