Episode 13 Continued - Curious Kitten
"Master, are you sure you're alright?" I said she I walked with her to the dinner tents. "You look very pale still. Maybe I can fetch a better jacket."
She just continued staring off into the distance, looking stern again. "I'm fine."
I let my lashes lower as she continued forward, and I went with her.
"Master, I could've brought dinner to your tent," I suggested then. "After what happened with that secretary fellow-"
"Sebastian," she said sternly, "I already told you, I'm fine. So drop it."
My lashes lowered then, and we continued walking.
She wasn't fine ten minutes ago. Ten minutes ago, she was clutching onto me for dear life, and wouldn't allow me to let go. Ten minutes ago, she was numb, and now she's back to normal again.
With Ciel, I told him that he shouldn't let these things bother him as much, and his response was gaining back his confidence in his family and deciding to march forward, but it didn't end well. He became oblivious and short-sighted, and it ended up in disaster.
But with Yumi... I comforted her for a little while, and now she was back to normal as if nothing happened.
I'll say my tactic worked.
I smiled then. "Of course, master. I won't bring it up again."
We finally entered the main tent, and the light inside reflected off Yumi's blue eye.
"Hey!" Taylor said then, rushing toward us. "You came for dinner! I'm so glad!"
Yumi just waved back, her face still stern but she didn't look bothered with him.
Was she not angry at him for ripping her sleeve like that? Forcing her to reveal her trauma?
My lashes lowered as I gazed up to find a crowd of people laughing and rushing about the dining tent, baking things over a fire-
I paused, eyes widening.
Fire.
I then glanced to the right, finding the smoke blowing out in the wind, and it came straight at Yumi.
I immediately shot forward and covered her mouth, earning a surprised squeal when I hopped backwards in a matter of seconds, taking her with me.
I landed on a large electric pole, removing my hand from her mouth as I kept her against me.
She gazed up then, glaring. "Sebastian? What the hell?"
I shook my head. "Master, you have asthma. Smoke isn't good for your lungs."
Her lashes lowered at my response, and she looked off to the distance. "Oh, I thought you forgot."
"I could never forget such a thing," I said then, eyes softening. "Especially knowing you have bad scarring in your lungs, as well. It cannot be good for your health. Your health is my top priority."
But a sudden voice came from below:
"Yumi!" Taylor called, rushing around. "Where did you go?!"
Yumi blinked then and gazed down at the crowd, immediately stepping backward when she realized how high up, we were.
I kept a hold of her, feeling her wrap her arms around my torso to keep herself from falling.
"Master, do you really think I'd let you fall?" I said more out of amusement.
She kept holding onto me. "No, it's just an instinct. I trust you."
I smiled. "Then you can let go of me now."
She gazed up then, cheeks burning a bright red as she shook her head.
"But I thought you said you trust me," I said then.
"I trust that you won't let me die," she said, lashes lowering. "Not that you'll purposely drop me, scare the shit out of me, and then catch me. And then laugh."
"Wow, your view of me is very upsetting," I stated honestly.
She just stepped closer, holding onto me tighter. "Don't let me fall. It's an order."
"I won't," I promised.
She gazed up in question, slowly releasing me as I kept a hold of her.
She then set her arms against her sides, gazing further out as the wind blew her hair over her face.
I watched curiously as her black stranded blended with the night, only the moonlight reflecting off the tips and making them look like stars.
Her lips parted as she continued gazing further out, and I watched the lights from the town reflect in her ocean blue eye.
She stumbled a little and yelped, but I brought her closer against me, holding her body to mine as she gazed up in question.
I just smiled down at her, watching my glowing red eyes reflect in hers.
Her cheeks dusted a light pink, and she looked back away, watching the night to avoid any closer contact.
I kept my hand on her hip, watching her closely as she took in this beautiful sight.
"Did it enter your lungs?" I said then. "The smoke?"
Her lips thinned and she shook her head.
"Do you swear on it?" I said then.
She nodded.
I then gazed out with her, watching the light reflect off her eyes.
