CHAPTER IX

In the tense silence that enveloped them, Agatha's mind raced with possibilities and strategies. She surveyed the area, noting the surrounding buildings and potential hiding spots where Enola and Edwin might be held captive. With a silent nod to Chris and the officers, they fanned out, moving cautiously and keeping their weapons at the ready.

As they crept closer to the designated location, Agatha's senses heightened, every rustle of leaves and distant sound magnified in her ears. She signaled for the team to halt as they approached a nondescript warehouse, its windows boarded up and its exterior worn with neglect.

As they approached the warehouse, Chris whispered nervously, "What do you think we'll find in there, Agatha?" Agatha's jaw tightened with determination as she replied in a low voice, "I'm not sure, Chris. But whatever it is, we'll handle it together. Just stay focused and keep your guard up." Chris nodded, her grip on her weapon tightening as they neared the entrance. "Got it. Just be careful, Agatha. I've got your back."

With a hand signal, Agatha directed two officers to cover the rear exit while she and Chris approached the front entrance. Their footsteps echoed in the stillness as they moved closer, their hearts pounding in anticipation of what they might find inside. As they reached the door, Agatha motioned for Chris to stand back as she pressed her ear against the cold metal, listening for any signs of movement or voices from within.

A muffled sound caught her attention, sending a chill down her spine as she realized they were not alone. With a silent nod to Chris, Agatha kicked open the door, adrenaline surging through her veins as they stormed into the dimly lit interior. Who shot you?" she asked, her eyes searching his face for any sign of recognition. Maxim struggled to speak through the pain, his voice barely above a whisper. "I... I don't know. They... they came out of nowhere," he managed to gasp out, his words punctuated by labored breaths. Chris, kneeling on the other side of Maxim, pressed further, his tone urgent. "Maxim, think. Did you see anyone before you were shot? Anything that could help us find who did this?"
