Victor was determined not to let his feelings fade into nothingness. He decided to take small steps to get closer to Adelda. It started with simple gestures: he joined the same clubs she was in, volunteered for the same events, and tried to be wherever she was. These small steps were his way of inching closer to her world, hoping that one day she might notice him.

The first club Victor joined was the school's community service group. He knew Adelda was passionate about giving back, often spending her weekends volunteering at local shelters and community centers. Victor had always admired her dedication from afar, and now he saw it as an opportunity to work alongside her.

On the first day of the club meeting, Victor felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. As he walked into the room, he saw Adelda at the front, animatedly discussing the upcoming fundraiser with other members. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and Victor couldn't help but smile as he watched her.

"Hey, Victor!" Adelda greeted him cheerfully when she saw him. "I didn't know you were interested in community service."

Victor felt a surge of warmth at her acknowledgment. "Yeah, I've been wanting to get more involved. Thought this would be a great place to start."

"Awesome! We could use all the help we can get," Adelda said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "We're planning a big fundraiser next month, and there's a lot to do. Are you up for it?"

"Definitely," Victor replied, eager to impress her. "Just let me know how I can help."

Over the next few weeks, Victor threw himself into the club's activities. He helped organize events, set up donation drives, and even spent his weekends volunteering at the local soup kitchen. Working alongside Adelda, he got to see her in a new light—her kindness, her passion, and her unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Despite his efforts, Victor couldn't shake the feeling that Adelda still saw him as just another volunteer. She was always friendly and appreciative, but there was a distance between them that he couldn't bridge. He watched as she laughed and joked with others, feeling a pang of longing every time he saw her smile at someone else.

One afternoon, as they were packing up after a successful food drive, Victor mustered the courage to ask Adelda if she wanted to grab a coffee. "Hey, Adelda, I was thinking... if you're not too busy, maybe we could go get a coffee or something? Just to relax after all this hard work."

Adelda looked at him, her expression thoughtful. "That sounds nice, Victor. But I actually have a ton of homework to catch up on tonight. Maybe another time?"

Victor forced a smile, hiding his disappointment. "Sure, no problem. Another time."

He watched her walk away, her usual spring in her step, and sighed. It felt like no matter what he did, he was always going to be stuck on the outside looking in. But Victor wasn't one to give up easily. He resolved to keep trying, believing that persistence would eventually pay off.

Victor's next step was to join the school's environmental club, another one of Adelda's passions. The club met every Tuesday after school, focusing on projects like recycling drives and tree planting. Victor showed up early for the first meeting, hoping to make a good impression.

Adelda greeted him with her usual warmth. "Victor! It's great to see you here. I didn't know you were into environmental stuff too."

"I've always cared about the environment," Victor lied, feeling a bit guilty. "Just thought it was about time I got more involved."

Adelda smiled. "Well, we're glad to have you. We're planning a big tree-planting event next weekend. Think you can make it?"

"Absolutely," Victor replied, feeling a surge of determination.

The tree-planting event was a success, thanks in no small part to Victor's hard work. He spent hours digging holes, planting saplings, and making sure everything was done right. Adelda was impressed by his dedication, and for the first time, Victor felt like he was starting to make a real connection with her.

As they took a break, sitting on a grassy hill overlooking the newly planted trees, Adelda turned to Victor. "You're really good at this, you know. I'm glad you joined the club."

"Thanks, Adelda," Victor said, feeling his heart swell with hope. "I'm really enjoying it. It's nice to feel like I'm making a difference."

"You definitely are," Adelda replied, her eyes shining with sincerity. "We couldn't have done this without you."

Victor smiled, feeling a flicker of optimism. Maybe, just maybe, he was starting to become more than just a face in the crowd to her.

Despite these small victories, Adelda still seemed oblivious to Victor's deeper feelings. She treated him kindly, always appreciating his help and enjoying his company, but there was no sign that she saw him as anything more than a friend. Victor's heart ached with the longing to be more, to be the one who made her eyes light up and her heart race.

One evening, as they were packing up after an environmental club meeting, Victor decided to take another risk. "Adelda, I was thinking... there's a concert in the park this Friday. Would you like to go with me?"

Adelda looked surprised but smiled. "That sounds fun, Victor. But I already made plans with Emma. Maybe next time?"

Victor nodded, hiding his disappointment once again. "Yeah, sure. Next time."

As he walked home that night, Victor couldn't help but feel frustrated. He had done everything he could think of to get closer to Adelda, but it seemed like he was always going to be just a friend to her. He wondered if he should give up, if he was only setting himself up for more heartache.

But giving up wasn't in Victor's nature. He reminded himself that relationships take time and that Adelda was worth every bit of effort. He resolved to keep trying, to keep showing her how much he cared, even if it meant enduring more moments of disappointment.

Victor continued to help Adelda with her books, offer her a seat in the cafeteria, and find ways to spend time with her. He listened to her talk about her dreams and fears, offering support and encouragement whenever she needed it. Each small step brought them closer, even if Adelda didn't realize it yet.

One day, as they were working on a community service project, Adelda turned to Victor with a thoughtful expression. "You know, Victor, I really appreciate everything you've done. You've been such a great friend."

Victor's heart ached at the word "friend," but he forced a smile. "Thanks, Adelda. I'm just glad I can help."

As they continued working, Victor couldn't shake the feeling that he was destined to remain in the friend zone forever. But deep down, he knew he couldn't give up. He believed in the power of persistence, in the idea that one day, Adelda would see him for who he truly was—a person who cared for her deeply and was willing to do whatever it took to be a part of her life.

And so, Victor pressed on, determined to turn his unrequited love into something more. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he was willing to fight for it. After all, some things were worth the wait, and for Victor, Adelda was one of those things.
