[Mello's POV]

I feel like a complete fool for getting a bit too sentimental in the conversation we held. And I feel even more foolish for thinking I'd feel sympathy towards her. What a turn of events.

My heartbeat is getting faster but I don't tremble a bit when I aim at her. That woman. I knew something about her was suspicious from the start but I did not think she'd seriously be involved. The fact that she knows my name means she must either come from the NPA or the SPK. Regarding the fact that I've obtained the notebook from the police recently and there's no reason for the SPK to contact me, she must definitely be with the police. And as much as I know, there is only one woman listed among the official task force members working on the Kira case. No. It can't be. There is only one in a million chances that-

"You already know who I am, don't you Mello? But in case you want to me to say it, I will."

It's Burgundy. The ghost which had assassinated dozens of people in the past couple of years in Japan. She never left any traces behind and nobody knew what she looked like. Back then I couldn't believe she had actually joined the task force and I'm still having a hard time taking it's her standing in front of me. There's still a possibility that it's a bluff. She had this psychotic smile on her face and the fact that this killer of a woman acted normally when I was walking next to her a moment ago, sends chills down my spine. Tch. It's not like that would scare me off in the slightest.

I look into her eyes with a hostile gaze as I say "You're Burgundy. And you know why I cannot stand you?". I stand more upright and let out a nasty laugh. "You might think you deserve praise for being the hero of those poor, helpless citizens but the only supporters you've got are retards with pea-sized brains, who are just as delusional as you are. What are you, Robin Hood? You're nothing but a ruthless killer."

I once thought to myself that I would never shoot a woman but this one's an exception. If I don't want my head cut off, I'll most probably have to kill her.

[(y/n)'s POV]

I gotta admit that was a good one. My expression turns entirely severe as I speak in a calm tone "Says the one who has killed a bunch of innocent SPK members because he couldn't cope with being inferior to his competitor. At this point, just admit it's a skill issue, blonde."

Mello's grin quickly fades as his expression changes into a mix of fury and hatred. Do I have a death wish? Probably. I hit a weak spot right there. I could feel his anger radiating like the heat of a volcano about to erupt. He narrows his eyes which are full of hatred as he gives me a short answer.

"Go to hell."

He was in fact a short-tempered genius. I'm genuinely surprised he didn't shoot me by now. I whisper loud enough for him to hear me "See you there, then" and start walking towards him.

"Stay where you are!", he screams roughly and aims his gun at me once more. I don't bother and just continue walking over to him. He screams at me again, this time much louder "I said stay where the fuck you are!". I don't care.

I've almost reached him by now, his expression getting more angry and more desperate with every step that I take. "This is my last warning. I am going to shoot you.", he yells with his eyes wide open. I provocately look into those ocean-blue eyes of his as I press my chest against the muzzle of his gun. Mello is now breathing heavily, his index finger slightly pulling the trigger.

"Come on. Shoot me. I know you can't. Because you, Mello, actually hate to kill. It's easy to tell. Your hand is trembling by now and no matter how hard you try, you can't manage to kill someone you just wanted to protect", I say without breaking eye contact.
