<Welcome back, Luna,> Karpov said as I approached him. <I heard your mission in Cuba was a success. They were quite pleased with all your services.>
His twisted smirk brought a knot in my stomach but I said nothing. If I did, it wouldn't get me anywhere. All it would do is condemn me to pain in the hands of others. It had been some time since I had to go through the electroshocks and I was trying to keep away from it as long as I could. Not to mention, someone else could be tortured.
And for some twisted reason, I couldn't do that to him.
<I have another mission for you,> he stated as he held out the file. <Oh, and the Soldier will be joining you momentarily.>
I reviewed the file alone until I heard the heavy footsteps of him approaching. Knowing he was going to me, I decided to meet him halfway. I made my way out of my room but stopped when Soldat walked toward me, already dressed in his uniform and mask.
I nodded my head at him and he did the same. <Tell me,> he instructed.
I handed him the file to review it as I explained, <Daniel Johnson, a journalist, acquired classified information. He has plans to go to the States and bring it to Virginia Senator Stolle in exchange for protection.>
<And how did we get word of it?>
<Stolle is good friends with Senator William Brooks.>
Soldat nodded. <Current Location?>
<Quarantined in a private location off the coast of the Adriatic Sea. He's going to be extracted and shipped to Washington in three days.>
Soldat grabbed the sheet that showed the layout of the private location along with the blueprints of the home. <The island is approximately eighteen square miles with the home at the very center of the island. There's a wall perimeter about three acres wide. Who else did they assign to our team?>
<Karpov didn't say.>
Soldat's jaw clenched as he studied the file. <We're on our own,> he grumbled. <We'll infiltrate the island on the other side of the beach. From there, we will use the night vision to take out the men before we infiltrate the home.>
<Your style of handling missions has always been successful but let's try mine this time,> I said as I gave him another paper for him to analyze.
<Brooks was the one who recommended this island to Stolle and that's why it's a way to get on the island without making too much noise. If we play our cards right, we will be off the island before anyone realizes it.>
<You sure this will work?>
<Yes, Sir.>
<We leave in ten,> Soldat informed me before he took the file and walked away.
During the plane ride to the island, Soldat and I discussed the plan to make sure we were on the same page. We changed into our wetsuits and made sure our scuba gear was ready for our long swim to the island. When we were ten miles out, Soldat opened the ramp to push a secured cargo that contained our weapons. The cargo had a system that would take it to the designated location. I stretched my arms a little bit as I waited for the pilot to lower down the plane. When the pilot gave the signal, I jumped down with my feet hitting the water first. Once I swam up to the surface, Soldat tossed the oxygen tanks down. I swam towards the gear and held onto it as Soldat jumped from the plane too. I slipped on my oxygen tank as Soldat swam towards me. I pushed his oxygen tank towards him while he slipped on his mouthpiece before we went underwater together.
