My Dearest Gabriel,
For pity's sake, please exercise restraint and refrain from burdening yourself, and by extension me, with the acquisition of the entire merchant's alley. This rumor has managed to infiltrate the Court, and everyone is convinced that either you have gone mad or you possess a mistress whom you wish to please. I am fully aware that your absence is due to the mission entrusted to you by His Majesty, and it would indeed be folly on your part to return before His Majesty's official order. Hence, I implore you to conduct yourself more appropriately in the future.
Nevertheless, setting aside this admonition, how are you faring? As you may have surmised, I have encountered some unfortunate events. However, do not concern yourself with them; they are but trifles. How is your journey proceeding? Is your stay to your liking? Do not trouble yourself with bringing back too many mementos, as I would hardly know what to do with them, though your kind gesture would be greatly appreciated.
You will likely be displeased with my recent fables, which I find rather poor indeed. I hope to present you with more satisfactory ones upon your return.
Please disregard this pen, I implore you, as well as the shade of my eyes. What a whimsical notion you have had, and it makes me blush with shame and embarrassment. Does your audacity know no bounds? Though I must admit, I do not complain...
My dear friend, your writing would be as elegant as mine if you had practiced as I had advised before your departure. Perhaps I might offer you a few lessons upon your return to my home, so that you may improve. Unless you have other plans to propose?
Your cruel absence pierces my heart with sorrow and is a torment to my mind. I hope to have the opportunity to see you again very soon.
Take care of yourself, my dear friend.
With all my tender affection,
Célestin
