My Most Dear Célestin,
What joy it brings me to have received your letter this morning! You cannot imagine how fulfilled I feel! I could not help but read your charming missive, replete with numerous reproaches towards me, repeatedly. Please do not worry about my wealth; I possess more than enough to offer you the world, if only I could. As for the Court's rumors, pay them no heed. In a few days, they will be forgotten.
I have excellent news to share: I have just received the order from His Majesty the King to return. I shall therefore be at Court in only a month or two. The mere thought of it fills me with great anticipation.
I am in splendid health, and I am eager to recount all that I have discovered. Regarding your "unfortunate event," my dear, wait until I arrive so that you may reveal everything to me. Nothing angers me more than the idea of you having faced some unpleasant incident during my absence.
I trust you will not scowl, as is your wont, upon learning that the delay in receiving your letter did not prevent me from acquiring many gifts for you, including the very pen you so fervently advised against. I am delighted by the effect I produce upon you; I am contemplating becoming a poet to recite verses to you—what do you think? Knowing you, I might very well end up with one of your slippers on my face, much like the lobster in your fable.
It would be with great pleasure that I accept your proposal for writing lessons. Why not indulge in them at my residence? I have other intriguing projects to suggest to you, if you catch my drift ≈.
And do not belittle your fables; I am certain I will derive as much pleasure as ever listening to you and your sweet voice recount them.
Your final words pierce my heart, knowing that my absence causes you so much suffering. I am eager to return to Court as swiftly as possible to alleviate the troubles of your soul.
Take care of yourself, my dearest and most tender friend.
With my most sincere affections,
Gabriel
