summary: mikey has a nightmare about not
being able to save leo from the prison dimension

mikey reached his arms forward and tried to crack open the atmosphere around him with his alleged "mystic hands". casey had said that future michaelangelo used his own two hands to send him back in time. if he could do that, there had to be a way for him to bring leo back.
of course, he hasn't been successful with doing anything mystic ever since he learned about it. but he at least had to try! he was not loosing his brother, not today.
"mikey, it's over" raph said sympathetically, also wrecked by the events that just happened, but was doing his best to hold it together for his brothers.
mikey shook his head aggressively, tears streaming down his face. "leo never gave up on us! i'm not giving up on him!"
he strained forward even more, imagining pulling open whatever veil was separating him and his brother. but it wouldn't budge.
mikey's arms were getting tired and he was already so drained and exhausted from sobbing, but he needed to keep going. he needed to bring him back. he needed to-
mikey found himself on his knees, shaking from exhaustion.
no no nonono he needed to keep trying. he had mystic hands! he knew it!
you need to stand up. you need to bring him back. you're the only one who can.
his mind was screaming at him to move, but his body was frozen. his heart began beating faster as he panicked, wishing his body would move. wishing he could bring him back. wishing he was good enough.
it's all your fault. now thanks to you, you'll never see your brother again. he's gone, suffering and alone who knows where with the kraang. you're no mystic warrior.
mikey clenched his hands, furiously wiping away the stream of tears painting his face, only for them to be quickly replaced.
mikey finally managed to croak out, "guys, i-i'm so-sorry i don't kn-know h-how to bring him back, i-i..."
there was no response. mikey turned around to see his brothers gone, and he was left all alone on the rooftop.
"guys?" mikey whispered, the darkness closing in around him.
no this can't be real they were just here
they left you
you're pathetic
they're gone
and it's all your fault
they're gone.

mikey shot up striaght, panting and sobbing. he was in his room, in his bed.
it was still dark outside. he had been sleeping. he clenched his jaw and swallowed, his throat aching and head pounding. he hated it.
it was just a dream, right?
right?
leo's still here you saved him
mikey ripped the covers off him and jumped out of bed, frantically walking down the hall towards his brothers' room. he fidgeted with his fingers as his mind raced around. if that dream was real, then that was the last time he ever saw his brother, where mikey was falling away from him and watching leo disappear.
the last time they hugged, where leo ran up to mikey and held him close, spinning him around with their faces smushed together. leo loved him so much, and mikey loved leo back. he'd been there with him his whole life. all their moments together, just memories now.
mikey approached leos bedroom door, taking a deep breath before pulling back the curtain acting as his door and entering.
he sniffled, breaking the deafening silence as he walked in, looking around the room slowly. his eyes were drawn to a light in front of him. he turned to see a figure lying in bed, light emitting from their phone screen. the figure seemed to notice mikey, and it sat up and called out to him.
"mikey?"
it was leo's voice.
without a second thought he impulsively ran towards the figure, jumping on it and squeezing it so tight, fearing that if he ever let go, leo would be gone.
but this was his voice. this was his figure. right here in his room, where he's supposed to be.
"mikey?" the figure called again, pushing mikey back a bit to get a better look him. mikey looked up to see leos face looking back at his, his eyes confused and slightly concerned. he'd never been happier to see those red stripes. "leo! you're here! you, i-i..."
the dream was just a dream. well, except for the first part. that actually happened. they almost lost leo as he sacrificed himself to enternity in another dimension, and mikey was able to open a portal to save him. he was here. it was ok.
"mikey, what's going on?"
mikey snapped back to reality to see leo's face slowly growing more and more concerned. "i-i had a ba-bad dream,"
he sniffled. "i wa-wasn't able to s-save
yo-ou and y-you were gone, everyone was g-g..." he couldn't bring himself to finish the sentence.
"it's ok, i'm right here" leo said, looking into mikey's eyes with sincerity. "and you did save me! i'm still here" he ran the back of his knuckle along mikey's cheek, wiping away his tears. "we all are."
mikey didn't know was to say. he just clutched his brother close to him and buried his face into his shoulder, trying to slow his breathing. leo wrapped his arms back around him, brushing his hand up and down his shell soothingly.
mikey clutched onto him, relishing in the feeling of his warmth against his body. the familiarness of him. how he knew that mikey needed to be held and loved, and that he just loved his brother so much. he sobbed and sobbed until he couldn't anymore, the room now just filled with the sounds of sniffles.
he was now exhausted after all of that, feeling tired but not wanting to leave leo's side. but he didn't want to be bothersome. or weird. mikey just needed affection. but he felt bad asking for it sometimes. he pondered on some way to ask if he could stay with him as he focused on his breathing.
leo seemed to get it and let go of mikey, shifting slightly so he was actually lying down. mikey looked down at him confused. "come here," he whispered, holding his arms open for mikey.
mikey's heart exploded, filled with so much love for his brother. he was right here, he was ok. and he didn't think it was weird to hold and comfort him.
he scrambled into his arms, taking deep breaths, reassuring himself that everything was okay now. he was soothed by the sound of leo's rhythmic heartbeat, reminding him that he was still here, he was still alive. leo pulled the covers over the both of them and fully engulfed his younger brother, feeling bad that the events from that battle months ago still haunted him. he held mikey close and enjoyed the now heartwarming moment between him and his brother.
