Ally is the oldest daughter of Hawkins Police Chief Jim Hopper. Ally moved to Hawkins with her dad in 1979 after the death of her younger sister Sara which destroyed her parent's marriage, this also strained her relationship with her father as she feels like a burden to him.
Ally took an interest in running and is now one of the best runners on the Hawkins High School track team earning the team many gold medals and trophies. She uses this as an escape from her home life hoping that it will get her a scholarship to a college away from Hawkins.
When Ally isn't running or arguing with her dad she's spending time with her friends. She mainly spends time with Steve, Tommy H and Carol. She and Tommy H used to date but they broke up at the end of Summer of 1983. She also sometimes spends time with her old best friend Nancy Wheeler and her other friend Barbara Holland.
