All knowing

"I'm telling you Stefan. She knows." Damon's words echo through the foyer. I say "are you certain?" He shrugs and says "this guy who's appeared in town suddenly at Brooke's side, he's a hunter." I pace the room, turning towards him i say "what makes you so sure?" Damon says "I know the smell of a hunter." He pours a drink and says "come on Stefan, they are Gilbert's - and we know how the founding families are when it comes to the supernatural." I sigh, Damon was making good points but there was no way Elena felt this way. I say "i have to talk to Elena." Damon says "be careful, her  sister might stake you." I roll my eyes and leave the house.

Brooke's POV
I come downstairs, seeing Dean sat on the sofa working away on the case. I pour two cups of coffee, as i hand one to him i say "did you sleep at all?" He says "a little but more importantly i made some calls..." i sit down and say "and?" He says "out of interest, when your parents died who did they leave the house too?" I shake my head and say "umm.. me? I think." He says "correct." I look at him in need of an explanation, he says "to claim the house - there's a document you have to fill in and sign, this will make it official - when it's official no vampire can walk in to the house without you inviting them in." I say "so right now?" Dean says "they can get in but legally no one owns the house." He hands me a form and says "oh my god- there were just so many things to do after they died, i was so overwhelmed with planning the funeral and getting legal guardianship of Elena and Jeremy that i .." Dean says "i understand - I'm not blaming you at all. Just sign it now and the house will legally be in your name." I nod. Reading through the paperwork.

As Elena comes downstairs she says "morning Brooke." I smile as Dean stands up he says "so Elena tell me about Stefan?" She says "excuse me?" He says "what's your relationship like?" She says "it's great." Dean looks at me and raises an eyebrow. I sign the paper and fold it up sliding it in an envelope. Dean says "he's not hurting you is he?" Elena says "no. He wouldn't ever." Dean backs off and sits back down, as Jeremy comes downstairs, he says "Dean. You're still here - do you want to come to a baseball game with me later?" I smile and nod slightly at Dean, he says "I'd love to Jere." As Jeremy and Elena leave for school, i look at Dean and say "thank you. He needs a good male role model in his life." As i smile, Dean says "you think that's me? I don't have the most idealistic life." I say "you're a good guy Dean."

As front door swings open. I rush to see what's happened. I come to a halt and say annoyed "Damon. What do you want?" He says "I'm just here to check up on you.. wouldn't want you doing anything .. stupid"  i roll my eyes, as he steps forward but hesitates he looks at me, as he smirks he says "nice necklace." I place my hand on chest, slipping the pendant between my fingers. I say "what do you want Damon?" He says "i think you know.." I shake my head, he says "well i think we both know i can't compel it out of you.." As he winks, i say "well then.." Dean comes in from the kitchen, he says "alright, pretty sure I've warned you to leave them alone." Damon laughs, as Dean pulls his gun from his back pocket pointing it toward Damon. Damon says "i wouldn't waste your bullets buddy.. that's not going to do much." Dean and I share a look, as he shoots Damon in the leg, he says "i wouldn't be so sure, buddy." Damon groans in pain clutching his leg.. he can barely stand. Dean says "next time it's the heart." I say "consider this your warning." I shut the door.

"Mmmhm" i groan walking into the Salvatore house - i plunge my hand into my leg and pick out the bullet. Stefan comes downstairs, he says "what's wrong with you?" I pull the bullet out, placing it down on the side table - i pour a drink and say "Brooke. She knows. In fact she stood there while her little boyfriend shot me." Stefan says "how- .. why?" I down a glass of bourbon and slam the glass on the table and say "because he's a fricking hunter Stefan!" I throw the bullet his way, as he catches it and examines it he says "wooden bullets, they do know." I smirk, and say "question is, how much do they know."

We sit at the kitchen table, looking through maps and news stories to figure out if the Salvatore's are the only vampires in town. "Are you at all worried that you shot a vampire, now he's angry and could be coming after you?" I say. Dean says "no. Let him come.. I'll kill him." I laugh slightly as Elena comes in, i say "hey where have you been?" She says "with Bonnie. Is Jeremy home?" I say "in his room." Elena goes into the kitchen grabbing a water from the fridge, i look at Dean who takes my hint and scoops up the maps and news articles just in time. Elena comes over and says "what are you guys doing?" I look at Dean and back at Elena, i say "you should sit down." She looks slightly confused and a little concerned but she sits down. I say "so i don't really know how to tell you this but at this point you need to know for your own safety." She says "Brooke you're scaring me." I take a deep breath and say "well you see.." at that moment there's a knock on the door. Elena jumps up and says "sorry that's Stefan." I say "hold on.. .. well.." i look at Dean and sigh. He gets up from the table as Elena says "let me just get my jacket, you can wait inside if you want." Dean and i share a look, Stefan goes to step inside but can't. Dean walks over to the front door and says "we haven't met, I'm Dean." Stefan smiles somewhat falsely before replying "I'm Stefan." I step infront of Dean, and say "you ought to tell your brother to be more careful." Stefan says "well he's reckless what can i say." I say "and you?" Stefan says "i care about Elena." I say "why?" Stefan says "what?" The silence falls between us. As Elena runs down the stairs, Dean grabs her hand holding her back he says "hold on". She says "what are you doing?!" I turn around and say "what do you think you're doing.. you're not leaving with him." Elena says "yes i am." Stefan raises an eyebrow. I say "no you're not and as your big sister and legal guardian you have to listen to me. We need to have a serious conversation." She says "you're not mom Brooke, and you've had Dean here for the past week, not exactly setting the best example." I'm shocked when did my baby sister get so self absorbed and mean. I say "I'm trying to protect you Elena, trust me. As for Dean, he's been sleeping on the sofa.. nothing has happened between us not that it's any of your business." Elena says "and whatever happens between Stefan and I is none of your business." She pulls away from Dean, i grab her arm i say "please don't do this Elena, let me explain." She shakes her head walking out the house.  I say "Stefan." He hangs back i say "if you let anything happen to her, I'll kill you." He nods and says "understood"  he walks away to catch up with Elena.

I take a deep breath as Dean says "are you okay?" I say "how is my biggest problem my own family, not the vampires in town." He puts a hand on my shoulder. I fall into him and he hugs me. I stay in his arms for a moment, as i pull back i say "I'm sorry.. sorry.." Dean says "you don't need to apologize.. family is complicated, i get that." I nod slowly, and say "thank you for being here Dean.. i couldn't do this alone" He says "anytime." He places a hand on my face and uses his thumb to wipe away a tear falling down my face.
