"Make sure tae call and text, alright."
"She'll be fine Love." Said my dad patting My emotional Mother's back gently.
"I will mum but I'll be going nae where if I miss my flight." I Chuckled sadly as I pulled my Mum into a hug.
"Dinnae Forget tae pray, read yer bible, and stay safe." My Da said as I pulled away from my mother and hugged my dad tightly.
It's not every day you go to America for University from a wee town in the Isle of Mull. I said my final goodbyes to my family and headed to my flight gate with my suitcases.
I haven't been to the mainland much and I've certainly never flown in an airplane before.
We finally boarded the plane and I found my seat. It was about 4 in the morning and you can bet that I got nae sleep what's so ever since the ferry from Mull and the drive from the port to Edinburgh ( Ed-in-bra) .
My seat was a window seat so I got all comfy and put on my noise cancelling head phones and said a wee prayer before going to sleep. The flight was 7 hours, 26 minutes and I woke up an hour before landing.
In that hour I prayed for guidance so that God would guide me to do the right thing and to pray always.
I've been a Christian all my life and so have my Mum and Da. Jesus is my Number 1 and he always will be.
After landing -----------------
I got off the plane nervous and also really excited.
I called a Taxi to take me to my University, George Washington University.
"Hiya tae George Washington University please." I said as I got in the back seat after I had a wonderful work out called putting abnormally heavy bags in the boot (or trunk as the Americans say)!
"Huh? What?" The driver said as he turned round to face me having a puzzled expression on his face.
"Tae George Washington University please." I said as my olive cheeks went pink while remembered that it's not handy to have a thick Scottish accent.
"Oh, Okay Ma'am." The driver said turning back around. "you're not from round here, are you?" He asked as he started the car.
"Naw, ah'm no fae round here." I said relaxing slightly.
"I'm Jim its nice to meet you...What's your name." he asked realising he hadn't asked what my name was.
"I'm Ruth and its nice to meet you too." I said grinning.
We both laughed for a while and spoke all the way to my stop.
"I'll see you around then. I'm the guy in charge of the dorms so call if there's anything wrong with yours or if anyone is bothering you, ok?" Jim said kindly as I got out of the car.
"I will Cheers." I said silently asking God to bless him for his kindness.
I gave him my cash to pay but he refused.
"Take it as it's a good to meet you treat." He said gently pushing the money I was trying to give him back into my hands.
I finally nodded and he helped me take my bags out the car.
We said goodbye and I went to the reception area to ask where my dorm was.
"Hiya, I'm Ruth McKenzie. I'm looking for my dorm. Any chance you have a map of the campus?" I asked trying to tone down my accent.
