|| killing someone in the first week of school is a great start to the school year. keeps people away from you.
i only attacked the songbird because they were taunting me. they knew who i was almost immediately even though i talked to them.
as the only person in my kingdom with the ability to speak, i opened up new hope for future generations to possibly gain back the ability.
but somehow the songbird knew who i was a instantly and started talking about my father's execution like it was some sort of joke.
so i did what i do best:
i leaned down to match their height, looking them dead in the eyes before i soften my expression. the thoughts they just had would leave them, their face becoming entranced in mine.
"how dare you speak of my father like that," i had said sweetly. people had stopped to look at us, but i didn't care. "you insolent songbird. no wonder your defenses are so bad that you have to send your heir here to get training. everyone knows that feyhra only takes those who are actually skilled. go throw yourself off of a ledge or something."
the songbird freezes. "yes, adonis. i am very sorry." then turns on their heel and proceeds to vault themselves off of the nearest terrace.
"do you have some sort of magical power?" someone asks behind me.
i turn to face a lovely boy with dark hair wearing an oversized hoodie and chained jeans. "no, it's just a skill."
the boy rolls his eyes. "that kid just threw themselves out of the tower for you and you call that a skill?"
"yes, actually. i'm a siren. it's what we do."
"mr. atlas, i heard there's a student dead because of you?" professor sivan walks into the round tower room, a group of students at his heel.
i turn to face the fatal points teacher. "yes, and?"
the professor looks like he wants to say something, but refrains, sealing his lips shut. "nothing. i just wanted to confirm." as he leaves, buzz emerges from the students, panic floating through their eyes.
soon enough there was a large gap of distance around me, except for the dark-haired boy.
"don't tell me you all are scared of him?" the boy scoffs. "weaklings." he rubs at his eyes harshly as he finishes getting stuff from his locker.
as he passes by me to get to his next class, i grasp his shoulder. "what's your name?"
the boy turns his emotionless face to mirror mine. "yuze mianqin. heir to the kingdom of moons. and you are adonis atlas, i presume? the infamous heir who can do what his entire kingdom cannot?"
i hope my eyes stab him as deeply as i feel they do. "i have a feeling we will get along well."
he smirks. "i hope we do, atlas."
i want him to fly out of a window next, that's for sure. i force a smile onto my face. "where are you headed next?"
"history. you?"
i focus all of my energy into keeping my emotions the same. "i'm heading there too."
"i see." yuze shifts away from my hand. "i hope that's our only class."
i glare at the back of his head as he recedes. "next time i'll make sure you find yourself on a window sill."
i get flipped off in response. didn't think he could hear me that well.
i sigh. it's going to an eventful year.
