The two of them settled back onto the couch, the sound of the rain creating a calming backdrop. Tia put on a movie, hoping to distract them from the storm outside. They laughed and chatted, enjoying each other's company. The awkwardness from earlier had completely dissipated, replaced by a comfortable camaraderie.
As the night wore on, the storm continued to rage, showing no signs of stopping. Tia stood up and stretched. "It's getting late," she said, glancing at the clock. "I’ll go grab some extra blankets and pillows for you."
Evan nodded, still watching the movie. "Thanks, Tia. You're a lifesaver."
Tia returned with the bedding, setting it up in the guest room "There you go," she said, fluffing the pillows. "This should be comfortable enough for the night. The bathroom's is there if you need anything."
Evan smiled, standing up and giving her a quick, grateful hug before remembering her discomfort with physical touch. He pulled back awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry, force of habit."
Tia laughed, shaking her head as she waved off his apology. "It's okay, no harm done. Just a little warning next time might be nice."
Evan raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in his eye. "A warning? Like a 'hug at your own risk' sign?"
Tia smirked, nodding. "Exactly. Something along those lines."
Evan chuckled, leaning against the counter. "Got it. I'll make sure to draft up a hug waiver form before any future attempts."
Tia grinned, enjoying the light-hearted exchange. "Perfect. And make sure it’s in triplicate—one for you, one for me, and one for the kitchen, in case it decides to join in."
Evan laughed, shaking his head. "Noted. And I’ll work on perfecting my non-hugging skills. Who knew I'd need a whole new set of etiquette rules?"
Tia smiled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Just consider it part of the adventure. Life with me comes with its own unique challenges."
Evan grinned, raising an imaginary glass. "To unique challenges and unexpected adventures," he toasted, making Tia laugh.
Their laughter filled the room, creating a warm, cheerful atmosphere that was a welcome contrast to the stormy night outside.
As they settled into their respective sleeping arrangements, the storm outside seemed to mellow into a softer, more rhythmic rain. The sound was soothing, like a lullaby. Tia, feeling a mix of exhaustion and contentment, turned off the lights and said goodnight to Evan.
"Goodnight, Evan. Sleep well," she said, retreating to her bedroom.
"Goodnight, Tia. Thanks again for letting me stay," Evan replied, settling down on the couch.
The apartment fell into a comfortable silence, with only the gentle sound of rain filling the air. As Tia lay in bed, she felt a sense of peace wash over her. The day had been full of unexpected surprises and emotions, but it had ended on a surprisingly positive note. She found herself smiling as she drifted off to sleep, comforted by the thought that, despite everything, she and Evan had grown closer.
Meanwhile, Evan lay on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. He couldn't help but feel grateful for the turn of events. Not only had they cleared up some misunderstandings, but they had also shared a memorable evening together. As he closed his eyes, he felt a sense of warmth and belonging that he hadn't experienced in a long time. Despite the storm outside, inside Tia's apartment, everything felt calm and right.
