Bargaining

Bargaining: when we're in pain, it's sometimes hard to accept that there's nothing we can do to change things. It's also common to find ourselves going over and over things that happened in the past and asking a lot of 'what if' questions, wishing we could go back and change things in the hope things could have turned out differently.

Mail Cubicle 45-67A

Who knew too many failed portal activations would be breaking the law?

The Administration seemed to take things too literally, or be too strict with what they considered a 'violation' and Zane could understand that to an extent, he often took things too literal, but even this was beyond him.

He's not entirely sure why he went with the Agents, perhaps it was confusion, but now he found himself shoved in a mail room, tens of old computers along the back wall, with a small desk in the corner and stacks upon stacks of unfiled papers. At least the nindroid was good at filing.

"You'll stay in here while our manager decides what to do with you," Agent Allen snarled, shoving Zane down into an office chair.

Agent Underwood, a purple Serpentine that was unknown to Zane's database, held him down as Agent Allen wrapped one of his wrists in metal, leaving him tied to the chair. It made no sense to Zane why they did it because he could've easily gotten out, but since this place was already on such high alert, he thought it'd be best not to argue and just wait it out.

The two agents stepped back, staring at him for a minute. The nindroid stared back, unsure of what to say.

"What do we do with him now?" Allen questioned, whispering to his co-worker.

Underwood shrugged, "we wait. Agent Walker told us to keep him here and make him file the mail while he talks to the Administrator. Who knows what they'll do to him."

"Scrap him?" Allen suggested.

"He'd make a good weapon if we reprogram him," Underwood disagreed.

Although it should've made him feel uneasy, he couldn't help but feel surprised. These agents could just take people from their everyday lives and scrap them? Well, it's not like Zane seemed like a person to these people but he at least thought they'd have some sympathy. Also who was this manager? Sending a potentially dangerous 'weapon' to file mail was highly unprofessional and surely a breach of health and safety laws.

The two agents turned back to Zane, glaring him up and down.

"Just stay here," Underwood told him, "the manager will be here to deal with you shortly."

And with that, they left, leaving Zane tied to the chair in this cold, slightly dim office. The CCTV camera in the right corner of the room was the first thing to catch his attention. He probably could've disabled it, but considering the fact he'd just been taken because of a violation that didn't really make any sense, he thought it'd be best to just stay here and do as he was told. His friends likely weren't that far away, he could feel it, so they'd rescue him in no time.

He swivelled the chair to sit at the desk, reaching out his free hand to turn the only working computer in the room on. It lit up a bright blue, stunning Zane temporarily. There wasn't much to work with, just spreadsheets to note down what was coming in and out of the room which seemed pretty easy. In the top right corner of the screen read 'Agent Walker'. So he'd used his own account to sign in? Odd.

As he moved the mouse towards it and clicked the name, a page reading 'Agent Walker's profile' dropped into view. There wasn't much information on it. His hometown was left empty and there was no ID picture. The only columns filled out were his age and department.
