A Spark in the Darkness (a young Hook x Reader fic)

Chapter 1

It was a sunny Tuesday morning at Merlin Academy and 4 months since Ray was taken in by the VK's which was also when Ray had started attending the school.

After she hit her head, she doesn't remember much about her life before she met the VKs. Not even who her parents were or if she even had a home. She only remembered a few moments before, and the basics like her name, age, etc. but nothing much other than that.

This was one of the reasons why they decided to take her in. They, mostly Hook, didn't want to push her back out into the world helplessly, with no where to go.

She was closest to Hook out of the group but was also one of, if not the only person who Uliana didn't treat like shit at all unlike the other VK's who she tends to be controlling over.

However Ray and the other students didn't know why or how Uliana took a liking towards a complete stranger. Uliana was the type to not get along with people or have an interest to get to know other people.

She was a bitch to almost everyone, including the other VKs at times. Many were surprised she even had the heart to feel bad for anyone as her only focus was to live up to her evil older sister's reputation, Ursula.

"Only until she gains her memory back, you hear?"
"Yes ma'am"

Ray and Hook have been rumoured to be dating and though they did have an admiration for each other, it was never made official.

She was known as "the new girl" for a while as do most new female students go by when they transfer to a new school

But a month prior she's gained a new nickname: Baby Ray

Though it doesn't sound bad, her peers use it as an insult. The name was given to her because she was the only person in Uliana's group that wasn't a "VK" which they found weird considering the fact that they are the meanest group of people in the school and had no limitations to their actions whatsoever.

Some people thought she might've bought herself into their group with a bunch of rumours circulating that she either sucked off the guys in the group while others say she sold her soul to Uliana to be apart of her group.

Luckily for her though, being apart of the group meant they all had her back.

When the teasing started, the VK's all dealt with it themselves even though she didn't ask them to. They've done unspeakable punishments to those who dared try to tease her and since then, the VK's barely left her side besides the few classes she had alone and became extremely protective of her.

Ray never really cared about the rumours or tried to clear them up and she didn't let the teasing or bullying get to her.

She was a fairly good student, except when she was with her group of friends. She also had a bit of an attitude with people at times. She never really bullied or tormented the other students as much as her friends did, but she found it funny most times.

Ray was at her locker, grabbing her chemistry textbook and homework for her next class when a boy from one of her classes came up beside her and leaned against the lockers, "beautiful day, ain't it there Ray Ray?" He smirked

Ray rolled her eyes, "what do you want, Cole?" She sighed

"Nothing, I just wanted to let you know that I'm free for Castle coming if you need a date. I mean, that is if Hook hasn't asked you yet." He said with a mischievous grin

"And why would I want to go with you?" She replied as she closed her locker and swung to face him with her books in her hands

"Well you know I was just-" he stopped mid sentence and she saw his smirk drop and could see all his confidence slipping away instantly as he looked behind her and watched as he quickly scurried off.
